Summary

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayers can now receive a free Golden Apple to add to their inventory. Unlocking it requires a feature added inTears of the Kingdom’s Version 1.2.0 update.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis without a doubt among the biggest games of 2023, selling nearly two-thirds as much as its experimental predecessor in just three months of availability to the public. Naturally, a popular game is going to receive multiple patches after release, no matter how much polish it had upon its launch day, andTears of the Kingdomis no exception. As of early July, it currently sits at Version 1.2.0, which patched out multiple story-obstructing bugs, as well as other glitches that prevented certain creatures from appearing or certain random elements from being randomized.

Another feature present as of this update lets players unlock free inventory items simply by clicking onTears of the Kingdom-related stories in the constantly updated Nintendo Switch News section. All they would have to do is click on the article, before scrolling to the bottom and finding a “Play Now” link. By selecting this, the player will be able to boot upTears of the Kingdomdirectly from there, and upon doing so, they will receive a free item in their inventory. In this case, the article in question is titled “Smile for the Camera!” and the material reward isa lone Golden Apple, one of the rarest yet most valuable food items in the game.

Golden Apples are among the many new collectible items added toTears of the Kingdomthat can be found in its massive three-layered overworld. They are usually seen in the same spots as regular Apples, but are much rarer and often appear randomly in said trees, though they are slightly more common on the Sky Islands. Perhaps the best place to find them is a tiny grove in the Lost Woods, most easily accessed throughone ofTears of the Kingdom’s Shrine Quests. Still, the trial and error it takes to track one down is worth it, as a Golden Apple will restore an extra half heart when eaten raw, and will boost the healing power of any dishes it’s cooked in.

Given this nifty new feature, most players should be appreciative of Nintendo for throwing them a bone, or in this case a Golden Apple. It’s likely some might be disappointed in the fact that they only get one, but thankfully, item duplication glitches still existeven as of Version 1.2.0, and combining that with receiving a Golden Apple should give players an easy means of stockpiling plenty more of them.
