The CEO of Level-5, the studio behind theYo-Kai Watchgame series, has started to tease fans about the series' future. The developer recently made waves this past month, where a number ofLevel-5 developed projectswere revealed during the February 2023 Nintendo Direct. This includes the social RPG sequelFantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, the puzzle RPGDeca Police, and even the unexpected but very welcome return ofProfessor Laytonin a new game that stars the titular professor himself. However, one property of the studio that did not make an appearance at the aforementioned Direct wasYo-Kai Watch. The series is decently popular, especiallytheYo-Kai Watchanime series, though it didn’t get the same amount of love in the West compared to Japan. After the initial run throughout 2014-2018, Level-5 produced another TV anime series that is currently airing in Japan calledYo-Kai Watchâª. An animated movie based on this series also released near the start of 2023. The anime currently has 90+ episodes as of this writing, and is still being broadcasted. The CEO of Level-5, Akihiro Hino, also teased what will be next for the series as the anime takes a break.RELATED:Deca Police Game Coming to Switch This YearThis was posted on the CEO’s official Twitter account, where according to a rough translation, the studio’s next property will follow in the same vein asYo-Kai Watch. It also teases that if fans liked what Yo-Kai Watch offered, this next property will be exciting for them, and will be revealed in due time. The tweet was accompanied by a rough sketch that shows a character with roughly the same design as those from the series. This creature resembles a cat, with a collar, red fur, and candy cane-patterned tail sitting on top of another person.
Level-5 had been teasing a new IPat the beginning of the year, a month before the Nintendo Direct on February. It said it would be a “completely new work” which could mean a new IP or possibly just a new game. As such, this image provided by Hino could be indicative of the game following inYo-Kai Watch’s footsteps, or straight-up beingYo-Kai Watch 5instead. Level 5 fans noticed that the flame in the bottom corner is teal blue, which is usually associated with Jibanyan’s tail. At the moment, however, fans will need to wait until more information is revealed later on.
It is worth noting that an event will soon be taking place known asLevel-5 Vision 2023, which is being held online March 9. There has also been a recent restructuring within Level-5 that saw the company expanding its global operations. It’s possible that this new event will reveal whatYo-Kai Watch-related project Hino is teasing, though this is purely speculation for now.
