How Gems Work In WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria

WoW Remix: Mists of Pandariawill use a gem’s system, alongside others like the Cloak of Infinite Potential, to give players more options and variety in gameplay. Using a variety of gems, players will be able to equip themselves to gear up and gain more stats, passive abilities, and abilities previously unavailable to their class, such as a Warrior having the monk’s Roll ability. Think of it as a more expansive takeon Season of Discovery’s Rune system.

Thanks to the Extract Gem ability, which is given to players after the introduction quests, players can also extract these gems and use them again or re-equip them later without losing them. As players level up and upgrade gear, they will get more slots, and therefore, more gems and options to play with.

All Gem Types In WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria

There are multiple types of gems players will find and use, along with various sockets that vary in number. By using different combinations with different classes, players can create some truly unique variations and build for classes that will feel fresh and different from their usual playstyle. Below are details on each gem type, including how many players can use it and what to expect from the four different gem types.

Meta Gems

Meta Gems are the most powerful gems players can get, having relatively long cooldowns in exchange for a powerful ability that can be a major addition to a class toolkit. Players can have one of these gems socketed into their Helm.

Cogwheel Gems

Cogwheel Gems are movement and utility-based gems that give players a range of extra mobility or abilities to aid party members, such as an absorb shield or the ability to move while casting spells. Like the Meta Gem, players can have 1 Cogwheel gem equipped to their boots.

Tinker Gems

Tinker Gems have various defensive and offensive effects, such as ways to heal, applying effects for extra damage, or adding some survivability to a class. Unlike the other gems, players can have 12 of these equipped, with 3 slots in the Shoulders, Wrists, Gloves, and Belt at the maximum, allowing for plenty of customization and freedom.

Prismatic Gems

Prismatic Gems are simple bread-and-butter gems that provide stat boosts, secondary or tertiary, to bump up your character’s power. Like in Diablo, these gems can be combined to make a stronger version, providing bigger stat increases. These also give stats based on the item level of the gear and upgrade as you increase armor power, or socket it into another stronger piece. Players can have 21 of these gems, with 3 in the Chest, Legs, Necklace, Rings, and Trinkets.

Players are also able to purchase several items using Bronze that will give them a gem they don’t yet own, starting at 500 Bronze for the Meta Gems, then 400 for Cogwheel, 300 for Tinker, and 200 for Prismatic, in addition to finding them while playing through the expansion.
