6Beast Master Hunter
Superior Survivability, Utility, And A Pet To… Sacrifice
Hunters have a reputation as one of the most casual-friendly classes inWoW Classic, but in Hardcore WoW, things are a bit different. In regularClassic, a hunter’s pet going haywire and aggroing a bunch of mobs is frustrating, but manageable. In Hardcore, an unruly pet can mean a death sentence – but a properly managed pet witha well-prepared Hunterat their side is hard to top when going at the game solo.

Warlocks have the same advantage in HardcoreWoWthat Hunters do: the ability to summon a pet that can take damage or distract enemies. Warlocks are especially efficient with their Demons because, at level 10, you unlock the Voidwalker Demon, which is essentially a mini-Tank just for the Warlock.
Warlocks also have a great many other benefits inWoW Classic. Healthstones are on a different cooldown from Potions, so you can bring both and have double the healing capability that most other classes would have access to. Of course, Voidwalkers can Taunt and Tank for you, but any pet can take the heat off and increase your chances of survivability.
Where the Warlock stumbles a little bit is that it’s still a squishy class. Hunters have Leather armor and their pets tend to be more customizable and stronger, while Warlocks can only use Cloth and don’t have many defensive abilities, though their Demons are more specialized.
Choose a Warlock forWoW Classicif you want to have a pet but don’t want the trouble of taming one, which can be risky inWoW Hardcore, and want to have your own sources of instant Healing whenever needed.
4Retribution Paladin
Utility At The Cost Of Complexity And Damage
Paladins are, without a doubt, one of the least difficult classes to play in HardcoreWoWbecause they have great defensives, great healing abilities, and are generally better at surviving tough situations than other classes. Though Paladins tend to rely on auto-attacks for their damage, this damage can be enhanced with their multitude of other effects, like Seals, Auras, and more.
Retribution Paladins are particularly good in Hardcore WoW because it’s one of the few ways to actually increase damage output without sacrificing that much survivability. In Hardcore mode, it’s important to get combat over with as fast as possible to move on and avoid mobs spawning back in on top of you. The Retribution path keeps the majority of Paladins' utility and healing while boosting their damage output considerably, shoring upone of the weakest elements of ClassicPaladins.
3Feral Druid
As Self-Sufficient As A Hunter, But You Become The Pet
Druids can fillmultiple roles inClassic World of Warcraft, and have an enormous amount of abilities available across all builds. Of the Balance, Guardian, and Feral trees, Feral reigns supreme in HardcoreWoWbecause of its movement buffs, stealth-oriented gameplay, and ability to deal huge damage numbers.
Being a Feral Druid still lets players access a number of healing and support spells intrinsic to Druids, but also empowers the class' most agile and offense-driven form.
The downside of playing a Druid is that it’s widely considered to be a bit of a jack-of-all-trades class that doesn’t excel at any one thing – but sticking to Cat form lets players move around the world faster with access to both Druid and rogue-like Stealth abilities, a toolkit that easily keeps players alive and out of trouble throughout the whole experience.
2Subtlety Rogue
A Stealth-Oriented Kit With No Shortage Of Escape Options
The Subtlety Rogue is one that doesn’t gain its iconic abilities until pretty far into leveling, but is still strong until them. After learning Vanish at Level 22 and after picking up the Preparation talent around Level 30 (if players commit to the Subtlety tree), the two abilities can be used in tandem to almost guarantee avoiding death in combat.
Vanish instantly puts the Rogue into Stealth and turns off their attack,and if it’s not resisted, enemies will lose trace of the player and go back to their normal routines. Preparation instantly resets the cooldown on every other Rogue ability, on a 10-minute cooldown. So, if Vanish doesn’t work the first time, Subtlety Rogues can pop Preparation and try again.
The Subtlety tree in general enhances Rogues' stealthiness and evasiveness, which can be a blessing when trying to get through dangerous areas unscathed.
1Frost Mage

Despite how squishy the class can be,Mages reign supreme in HardcoreWoWbecause of their Frost spells. Though Fire is great for dealing bursts of damage, and Arcane is useful for polymorphing and conjuring drinks and food, Frost spells are the most useful because they can slow enemies, freeze them in their tracks, and give opportunities for the player to get away.
By speccing into the Frost tree instead of Arcane and Fire, players don’t lose access to those powerful spells – like Blink and Fire Blast – but they just enhance the effects of their Frost skills. Frost Nova is the best skill for getting away from overwhelming enemies, while Frostbolt can slow enemies down enough to prevent them ever reaching the player in the first place.
Combine these abilities with spells like Polymorph, the conjuring and Portal-summoning spells, and a host of buffs and other utility spells, and it’s easy to see why Mages are so good for HardcoreWoW.
