Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom LibertyDLC is poised to make a lot of changes in the base game in addition to the story content that it will add. The extent of these changes will not be fully known until the DLC is released later this year, though some big adjustments have already been revealed. However, there is one addition that theCyberpunk 2077DLC is unlikely to add.

Thelatest trailer forCyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertyfinally revealed what the story of the DLC would be as well as its release date. In it, V must go into a walled-off portion of Night City known as Dog Town to rescue Rosalind Myers, the president of the New United States of America. Unfortunately for gamers who like to take their time, the stakes in the DLC are high, and it doesn’t seem like it will allow for much downtime. This likely means that the upcoming DLC will probably not include any new romance options for the game.

How Romanic Subplots Work in Cyberpunk 2077

Despite the dire stakes in the game,Cyberpunk 2077is full of romanceand gives the player plenty of characters to woo. About half of these characters are introduced to V in major story beats. Panam, Rogue, and Judy, for example, are all characters who are introduced in the game’s main story. The actual romantic parts, however, happen in side missions that are mostly unconnected to the game’s main narrative and require additional effort on the player’s part to accomplish. Unfortunately, the narrative of the upcoming DLC doesn’t seem to leave much room for any romance.

The actual story ofCyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertyshares a lot in common withEscape From New York. Both follow a main character trying to rescue the president in a closed-off city full of criminals, with the film that the DLC is clearly taking inspiration from was a tight and tense narrative that didn’t allow for any romantic subplots. The trailer for the game seems to suggest a similar narrative where the characters will constantly be on the move and racing against the clock. Not to mention, the two main characters who might seem like viable romantic options don’t appear to be good people.

Why Phantom Liberty’s Main Characters Won’t Make Good Romantic Interests

Based on the trailers, it seems that V will have to deal with two principal characters throughout the DLC. Solomon Reed and Songbird appear to be those main supporting characters and the ones who will likely guide the player in their time in Dogtown. They’re also likely to be the characters who V would romance if the option was available, though this could change after the DLC is released. Unfortunately, both characters don’t exactly appear to be on the up and up.

From his first appearance in the game’s second trailer, it was clear thatIdris Elba’s Solomon Reed wasn’t someone who should be trusted. His dialog and apparent actions in the latest trailer seemed to double down on that. Likewise, Songbird’s dialog and promises seem suspicious and the trailer almost seems to be setting up an eventual conflict between the two characters and their interests. The whole thing just doesn’t exactly scream a romantic setup or a happy ending for any of the characters involved.

At this point, it’s still too difficult to say what the upcoming DLC will bring.Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertywill make a new ending available, but it is unknown how it could tie into a romantic subplot. Some of the game’s love stories do tie into the game’s ending, with The Sun ending affecting it the most. However, as things stand, the upcoming DLC is unlikely to add any new romance to the game.
