Over the past 20 years, while much of Sotenbori’s landscape has remained remarkably consistent, there have been several new additions. Businesses have changed hands, and the city has evolved, reflecting the passage of time. Joryu, the protagonist ofLike a Dragon Gaiden, returns to Sotenbori after many years away. His journey through the city, reconnecting with old haunts anddiscovering new ones, unfolds through his interactions with both citizens and tourists as he completes various requests and substories in the game’s Akame Network system.

Where to Start “How ‘Bout Them Kappas” Request
One of the unique requests Joryu undertakes inLike a Dragon Gaideninvolves a strange new addition to Sotenbori:a kappa statue. The mission begins just north of the Sotenbori River, which bisects the city. There, Joryu encounters an older gentleman sitting on a bench. The man shares his vision for improving Sotenbori, inspired by the charming kappa statues he learned about in Isezaki Ijincho, one of Joryu’s earlier destinations and a key location in the gameYakuza: Like a Dragon.
Players familiar withYakuza: Like a Dragonmay recall a Part-Time Heromission involving these kappa statuesin Isezaki Ijincho. In that game, the protagonist, Kasuga Ichiban, was tasked with locating and photographing the statues, which were carefully hidden throughout the city. This task was one of the more notoriously challenging missions, requiring players to meticulously search for the statues, which were sometimes in pretty zany places.
In contrast,Like a Dragon Gaidenfeatures just one kappa statue to be found. Joryu is enlisted by the man to locate the statue and capture its image using his phone’s camera. Here’s where players can find the kappa statue inLike a Dragon Gaidenand complete the request, “How ‘Bout Them Kappas.”
Where to Find and Photograph the Kappa Statue
Sotenbori’s kappa statue required for"How ‘Bout The Kappas"is relatively easy to locate, especially when compared to the ones in Isezaki Ijincho. Players may even be able to spot the kappa statue from the bench where the quest giver is seated, as it is situated just across the river.
The kappa statue stands on the southern side of the Sotenbori River, almost directly across from where the man is located. Joryu’s task is to head down to the river walkway, reaching the statue positioned near the center of the footpath. Once at the statue, players can use Joryu’s camera tool, activated by pressing up on the D-pad or the ‘C’ key for keyboard users, to take a photo.
After photographing the kappa statue, Joryu returns to the man to show him the captured image. This action completes the “Find the Kappa Statue” quest. The player is then rewarded with Akame Network points and ¥40,000.
