FromAssassin’s Creed 1toAssassin’s Creed Syndicate, fans of the franchise received a game year after year. This led, for many, to franchise fatigue and resulted, if indirectly, in Ubisoft’s latest direction forAssassin’s Creedgames.Originsbegan a shift from action-adventure RPG with stealth/parkour elements to standard operating producer open-world games, as seen inAssassin’s Creed OdysseyandAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. That’s not to say anything disparaging about the titles, but the times continue to change.

This is perhaps most evident in how 2016, 2019, and 2021 all served as skip years in the franchise. All signs currently point toward 2022 repeating this as well, if with the exception of continued support forAssassin’s Creed Valhallacontent. With no new game likely on the horizon, here’s what fans can expect for the franchise this year.

Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection Hits Switch

A welcome surprise, Ubisoft recently announced that theEzio Collectionwould hit the Switch next month. It’s already a bit of a busy month, but for fans of the franchise, it’s yet another reason to return toAC2, AC Brotherhood, andAC Revelations. As a port, it’s not likely to get much more than a launch trailer, but for Switch users who are fans of the franchise, expectations for performance and quality should already be set.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC Dominates 2022

AC Valhallawill continue its seasonal content run into 2022, although 2023 and how much of 2022 is largely unclear.Dawn of Ragnarokis a major, 35-hour expansion set to release in March. Players will be stepping into the role ofHavi/Odin in an attempt to save Baldr, rescue dwarves, and defeat the invading frost and fire giants. Beyond that, it’s within reason thatAssassin’s Creed Valhallagets another major expansion by the end of the year. This is largely speculation, but with a new game unlikely and support continuing for Valhalla, another DLC by year’s end would make sense as a way to fill the void.

New Assassin’s Creed Game in 2022? Unlikely. AC Infinity News

There have been some rumors that a newACgame set in India would release this year, sinceAC Infinityis so far off. However, this is unlikely. WithMontreal and Quebec working onAC Infinityand serving as the primary studios behindAssassin’s Creed,it would have to be pushed to another studio, and that seems unlikely given the sheer size and scope of recent games—which other studios, acting in smaller capacities and/or with less collaboration, aren’t likely to maintain. If Ubisoft had a secretAssassin’s Creedstashed somewhere, chances are it would get an E3 reveal and a fall 2022 release, but fans really shouldn’t hold their breath.

Meanwhile, it’s possible thatAssassin’s Creed Infinitygets more news. It’s more likely to be micro doses throughout the year, as it’s not expected to release for at least another year. It is a live-service game, so it won’t have everything at launch, but with what’s known, it’s unlikely anything would be ready. Ergo,Assassin’s Creed Infinitynewswill likely be small and dispersed, allowingAC Valhallato continue at the helm for the foreseeable future
