Summary

Hifumi Togo may not be a party member inPersona 5 Royal, but she still manages to be one of the best confidants in the game. When it comes toPersona 5,time is often of the essence, so players need to make smart decisions over how they spend their days. This is the same regarding Confidants, as while it’s possible to complete them all in one playthrough, players will often need to prioritize one over the others for one reason or another. Whenever Hifumi Togo becomes available, there is good reason to choose her over all other options.

As a mechanic, theConfidant system inPersona 5is a valid successor to the Social Links ofPersonagames past. While they are built up through similar means, Confidants are far more rewarding for their extra abilities, which are unique to each Confidant. At the same time, they also share the same benefits from past Social Links. Each Confidant has their own storyline that plays out over the course of their events, with a major obstacle in their lives that they get over with Joker’s help. At the end, their story not only reaches its conclusion, but the player unlocks the ultimate Persona of their arcana.

Hifumi’s Confidant is Well Worth Seeing Through in Persona 5

Hifumi Togo is theStar Confidant inPersona 5, a fitting arcana for her status in the game. Hifumi is a shogi player who, at the game’s start, has been quickly rising to fame for her impressive track record. Unfortunately, her fame comes with more downsides than benefits. Other shogi players resent her and don’t take her seriously, damaging her image. Hifumi also has a side job as a model that she hates, and her mother would rather she pursue that path. Hifumi is also one of the romanceable confidants, providing an additional angle to her story for players to follow.

One big reason for Hifumi being one ofPersona 5’s best Confidantsis her likable nature. Hifumi has a naturally calm and reserved personality, and despite her fame, she’s largely free of any egotistical traits. In fact, getting rich and famous isn’t even her main motivation for being a shogi player. Rather, she just wants to make a living playing a game that she loves. Despite her usual demeanor, she has a tendency to get unexpectedly animated during games, giving her an amusing quirk. Hifumi’s cool and level head not only makes her a good shogi player, it also makes her a solid Confidant.

Making use of good confidant abilities is aguideline to live by inPersona 5, and Hifumi offers some of the best in the game. Rather than focusing in one area, Hifumi unlocks a selection of tactical bonuses through her confidant. Her Confidant abilities include the power to swap party members mid-fight, enabling follow-up attacks after downing a foe, and guaranteed escapes when surrounded. It’s fitting that her bonuses come in the form of strategic moves, since she spends her Confidant arc teaching Joker how to play Shogi. It’s a good reflection of Hifumi herself while also being immensely useful in gameplay.

Hifumi is one of the best Confidants in the game, and a good example of aConfidant that could influencePersona 6. She’s one of the more likable personalities among the Confidants, and her abilities are some of the most simple yet effective in the game. That adds up to a satisfying Confidant arc to play through, with a payoff that is well worth the journey. In the end, Hifumi’s Confidant ends up being more satisfying than even some party members' arcs. It’s not hard to see why the Star Confident is amongPersona 5’s best.
