Summary
Assassin’s Creed Mirageis set in the 9th-century city of Baghdad which is stunning and arguably the game’s greatest strength. As with otherhistorical open-world games, players often want to be fully immersed, and whileMiragealready does a great job at grounding players with authenticity and realism, there are things that players can do themselves to enhance the immersion.
In general, players will want to turn off features that remind them they are playing a game such as cluttered HUD elements, and they should attempt to play the game as though they are actually the character living in the medieval Arabian world ofMirage.
1Set The Audio Language To Arabic
One of the greatest features ofAssassin’s Creed Mirageis that players are able to experience the full magic of 9th-century Baghdad by changing the audio language to Arabic. By switching subtitles on, players can kick back and fully immerse themselves in the medieval Arabian world, listening to traders calling their wares in their natural tongue.
Eventhe best open-world games set in Asiadon’t normally have this option, so it is a good opportunity for players to enjoy a fully authentic experience. The subtitles also include certain formal Arabic greetings and farewells, with an explanation translated, so players might even learn a thing or two.
2Turn Off The HUD
Arguably the easiest way to improve immersion inAssassin’s Creed Mirageis to turn off elements of the HUD to remove clutter from the screen. Having no HUD allows players to see the medieval metropolis of Baghdad as though they were there themselves in person rather than experiencing it as a video game.
Of course, the HUD does have its uses, and certain elements such as the compass and icons are more important for playing the game than others. Players can completely customize their experience and turn off as much of the HUD as they wish, playing around with different options in the interface settings. If players aren’t ready to fully turn their HUDs off, they can at leastuse photo mode inAssassin’s Creed Mirageto take beautiful screenshots with no UI.
3Use The Cinematic Camera While Riding
Although most ofMiragetakes place within the walls of Baghdad where mounts aren’t necessary, players will occasionally need or feel the urge to venture out into the wilderness atop a trusty camel or horse. To soak in the beauty of the desert and relaxon their journey, players can first select the follow-road option and then choose the cinematic camera.
With the cinematic camera enabled, the HUD disappears, leaving players with a beautiful view of their mount and the surrounding countryside. Because the mount automatically follows the road, players can freely move the camera around to look at what they want without having to worry about coming off the track.
4Wear Outfits That Blend In
Ironically, the Hidden Ones who would go on to become the Assassin Brotherhood, aren’t that hidden when they walk around Baghdad in their iconic outfits, but thankfully players can change Basim’s attire for something more subtle, which would realistically help him fit in with the populace of the city.
Of course, players must first unlock new outfits and appearances, but once they have a few to choose from they can look at what other NPCs wear and try to fit in. ThankfullyMiragehasa transmog systemthat allows players to choose their appearance while maintaining the stats and benefits of the best gear. By not standing out like a sore thumb, players will find exploration and stealth gameplay much more immersive.
5Turn Off Enemy Proximity
Assassin’s Creed Mirageis afantastic open-world stealth game, but to make the stealth gameplay more immersive and realistic, players can disable enemy proximity in the interface options menu. This essentially means that enemies won’t be highlighted in red, and instead players must check corners themselves or use their Eagle to scout out guard locations.
Other than making for a more challenging experience, turning enemy proximity off will also make the game look better and more historically authentic.
6Try To Walk When Appropriate
The default in most open-world games is to run around as fast as possible, even if that is not what most humans do in ordinary life when they aren’t being chased or late for something. Running through a city such as 9th century Baghdad would certainly raise a few eyebrows, and so for a more immersive playthrough, players can try walking to not draw attention.
Of course, most of the time players will want to soar along the rooftops with the franchise’s iconic parkour. However, if they are going to buy something from a merchant, walking would be much more appropriate than running when they are close. Walking instead of running in the lead-up to a stealth mission is also more realistic, as an assassin would not want to draw attention to themselves.
7Use Immersive Mods
A tried and tested method to improve immersion inany game that allows modsis to download certain mods that aim to make the game more immersive. Many different kinds of mods can heighten immersion, such as UI and HUD mods, reshades that make the environments more realistic and beautiful, and mods that remove unwanted or unrealistic effects.
Of course, over time more mods will be released forAssassin’s Creed Mirageand so there will always be fresh ways to take immersion to new levels.
