Electronic Arts is releasingBattlefield 2042next month, but several videos have been released displaying the flaws in the game since a recent open beta. One recent clip shows a glaring issue with smoke grenades obstructing important elements of the UI.

TikTok user and Twitch streamer Hotsaucezee recently posted a clip fromBattlefield 2042that shows the content creator reviving a fallen ally with the defibrillator. As bullets flew through the smoke, Hotsaucezee fired back but didn’t receive any hit markers and he slowly realized what was happening. At least four teammates were firing wildly through the smoke because their only intel from within the smoke was that other soldiers were on the other side of the smoke and an ally had just been gunned down.

Hotsaucezee couldn’t immediately identify whether allies or enemies were firing at him from within the smoke cloud because his teammates were obscured. There were no indicators as to whether the soldiers in the smoke were allies or enemies. After the smoke cleared, theTikTokuser realized that a group of teammates was firing on itself. Hotsaucezee then stated “okay, cool. No friendly icons in smoke so you just shoot at each other, sweet!”

Hotsaucezee’s clip illustrates an issue withBattlefield 2042’s smoke grenades in the open beta. Because it’s affecting every player equally, they’re unable to differentiate a player from an enemy due to the smoke obstructing the blue and red icons that indicate which side a player is fighting for. This issue may result in confusion with the smoke grenade whenBattlefield 2042releases in November.

Like so many otherBattlefieldfans, Hotsaucezee was playing a game of Conquest in theBattlefield 2042open beta. The clip was captured near the equipment on the C1 point just beyond the tunnel that connects one side of Orbital to the other. Friendly fire wasn’t activated in the beta and is typically reserved for Hardcore game modes, but if it was enabled, several allies would’ve inadvertently killed each other just in Hotsaucezee’s video.

Though the full release ofBattlefield 2042will likely see improvements to several aspects of the game since the open beta test, this smoke grenade issue may be a problem upon the game’s release. Considering how much space the smoke from a smoke grenade inBattlefield 2042covers, the lack of player icons is sure to cause some frustration. SomeBattlefield 2042fans expect that this smoke grenade issue is one of theseveral glitches that DICE may fixbefore the game releases, but others aren’t as sure.

BecauseBattlefield 2042has yet to release, issues like the player icons not showing through smoke may be fixed in the completed game. According to DICE, theBattlefield 2042open beta build is a few months behind the latest version of the game and the final version of the game may be further optimized. EA also releasedfeedback forms for theBattlefield 2042betain order to gauge the fan reaction to the game so far.

Battlefield 2042releases for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
