Summary
Pawns are the beating heart ofDragon’s Dogma 2and are incredibly helpful both in combat and outside of it. There are also plenty of great interactions with Pawns, from them calling out the Arisen for only selecting female companions to the high-fives they give after a fight has concluded.
Beyond these more obvious Pawn interactions, there are also some hidden features or creative ways in which players can engage with their Pawns. As such, the following is a collection of some of the most hilarious or useful things that Pawns can do inDragon’s Dogma 2.
1Pawns Can Catch The Arisen, Saving Them From Death
This Can Happen No Matter The Height Of The Fall
One of the hidden features of Pawns which players won’t learn about until they need it most, is the ability for Pawns to catch the Arisen, preventing them from dying from fall damage. Naturally, the Pawn must be roughly beneath the Arisen when they fall, which won’t always be the case, but if they are, then players need not press anything, as the Pawn will do all the work.
There are a few occasions when this can come in handy while exploring, but it is more likely to occur amid the chaos of battle when the player is picked up and dropped by a Griffin, for example. This isone of many features that have been carried over from the original. However, it seems even more reliable now.
2Players Can Carry Non-Active Pawns Into Combat To Have 4 Pawns
This Is A Creative Way To Gain The Upper Hand In Fights
Players can have up to three Pawns in their party at a time, with their main Pawn always by their side, and then twoPawns recruited from Riftstonesor chance encounters on the road. This is technically the limit. However, if players physically pick up another Pawn who is wandering the world, they can carry them into combat and when dropped they will feel compelled to help.
In fact, players can pull off this trick on any NPC to gain a handy numbers advantage in tough fights. Of course, bringing an unarmed merchant into the fray won’t be of much use, but there are plenty of guards or high-level Pawns to be found.
3Mage Pawns Can Levitate Toward Inaccessible Loot
Using The Go! Command Sometimes Makes Them Fly Toward Loot
If players are currently playing asany Vocationthat isn’t a Mage, then for several reasons, it can be a good idea to have a Mage Pawn in the party. On top of havinganother way to heal, one of the core skills for Mages is the ability to levitate wherever they wish.
While this skill can be put to many more creative uses by the Arisen, Pawns have one great use for it. If there is a chest or other loot out of reach, then the player can look at it and give the “Go!” command, and with some luck, their Mage will levitate towards it and take what’s inside.
4Pawns Can Act As Elvish Translators Or Merchants
Pawn Specializations Allow Them To Perform Unique Jobs
Pawn Specializations are a great feature as they grant additional uses to Pawns, with different members of the party being able to perform unique functions. In the early stages of the game, players might be able to find the Chirurgeon of Logistician Specializations to give to their main Pawn, or else they may come across other players' Pawns who have these qualities of healing and organization, respectfully.
However, what players might not know is that, a little later, Pawns have some rather surprising Specializations. First of all, thanks to Woodland Wordsmith, a Pawn can become an interpreter of Elvish, which will come in incredibly useful in at least one section of the game. Furthermore, players always on the lookout for a merchant to offload their loot will be glad to know that Hawkers are Pawns who will buy goods from the player. However, players should always bear in mind there are someitems that they shouldn’t sell inDragon’s Dogma 2.
5Pawns Can Open One-Way Gates If You Throw Them Over
This Avoids Having To Find Another Way Around
There are a few gates inDragon’s Dogma 2that can only be opened from one side, and at times the route around is unknown or too dangerous. Thankfully, there is a creative trick using Pawns to solve this problem. Players can simply pick a Pawn up and throw them over the wall in question, and the Pawn will then smash the door in, opening it for all.
Furthermore, players should be able to find other creative ways to make use of the ability to throw Pawns. For example, they could throw them to some seemingly inaccessible loot.
6Can Play Catch With Pawns
Throw Rocks, Rabbits, & Even Pigs Between One Another
Dragon’s Dogma 2is a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, with plenty of funny interactions or opportunities for fun. One of the most hilarious things players can do with their Pawn is to have a game of catch, but it doesn’t have to be an ordinary game of catch,as this fan illustrates.
For example, players can use rabbits, pigs, and other creatures for their game of catch, although some Pawns, perhaps rightfully so, will scold their master for such behavior. This likely depends onthe Pawn’s Inclination. Interestingly, to play catch, players must first train a Pawn to do so by repeatedly throwing an object or creature at them. Eventually, they will learn to do so and after catching it, they will throw it back to the player, who must use the grab button again to catch.
