TheTwisted Metalvideo game franchise, with a slew of titles released since the 90s, has held a special place in many fans' hearts despite not seeing a new game release since 2012. Seeing narrative potential in theMad Max-esque action franchise, NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service has greenlit aTwisted Metalstreaming series and has actively worked to cast an impressive array of actors. Now, two more actors will be joining the derby:Scream’s Neve Campbell andSpider-Man: No Way Home’s Thomas Haden Church.
Peacock’sTwisted Metalseriesmarks the latest attempt to develop a live-actionTwisted Metalproject following a proposedTwisted Metalmovie by Sony Pictures andCrankdirector Brian Taylor that ultimately never saw the light of day. This series is getting considerably farther through development, however. The series has found a director inThe Eric Andre Showshowrunner Kitao Sakurai, a writer inCobra Kai’s Michael Jonathan Smith, and writing credits fromDeadpool’s Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, withAvengers: Endgameactor Anthony Mackie andEncantoactress Stephanie Beatriz attached to star in the series.

Now, Neve Campbell and Thomas Haden Church have joined what is quickly becoming an exciting ensemble of actors. ForScreamactress Neve Campbell, this will be her first appearance in a series since HBO Max’sThe Lincoln Lawyerseries, which was recently released on its platform. While Campbell’s role hasn’t been revealed, Deadline reports that Thomas Haden Church will play Agent Stone, a tenacious highway patrolman seeking to “bring law and order back to the Divided States of America.” TheSpider-Man: No Way Homeactor can be seen next in the independent coming-of-age filmAcidman, which premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival this June.
Peacock has continued to provide new content to its viewers, such as theirSaved by the Bellreboot and dramatic reimagining ofThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Peacock has recently aired live streams of events such asWWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, while Universal has also been releasing films such asHalloween EndsandFirestarterday-and-date in theaters and on the streaming service.
With talented creatives like Kitao Sakurai and a slew of great cast members, Peacock’sTwisted Metallooks to be one of the most exciting live-action video game adaptations in recent memory. Peacock may not have as much content in comparison to other streamers like Netflix and Amazon, but with potential killer apps likeTwisted Metal, Peacock’s luck might just be about to change.
