Summary
Despite being released back in 2015,Fallout 4still has countless fans who play the game on almost a daily basis. Some players have pumped thousands of hours into the game, built enormous settlements, and completed every possible quest and mission, minus doing all ofPreston Garvey’s settlement quests, of course!
Merchants are a large part ofFallout 4.That said, knowing what to buy and what to avoid purchasing is an important part of the game. With that in mind, this article aims to help players make the right decisions when it comes to merchant sales byavoiding wasting Caps on unnecessary purchases.
1Weapons And Armor
Traders Tend Not To Sell Good Weapons And Armor
Good weapons andgreat armor setsare easy to come across while conquering the Commonwealth. Almost every enemy killed will result in the player being able to loot weapons or armor off a corpse. Because of this, there isn’t really much of a need to waste Caps buying weapons and armor that the player can get for free by taking out a few bad guys.
Even in the early game, players tend to come across weapons and armor pretty easily. It is much better to save the Caps for other purchases. Players can also find one-of-a-kind weapons out in the Commonwealth. These rare weapons are usually considerably better than any weapon sold by merchants.
2Most Healing Items
Not Always A Waste, But Definitely Not Necessary
Much like the previous entry, players will come across lots of goodies while out cleaning up the streets of post-war Boston. Early on, it may be a struggle to find things like Stimpaks and Radaway, butit really doesn’t take long for the player to have an abundance of all healing items.
Sometimes, it may be worth purchasinga few extra Stimpaksbefore going to clear out particularly difficult locations like Gunner’s Plaza. But, aside from that, very rarely will a player be in desperate need of things like Stimpaks. Players can also craft various healing items, including Stimpaks. So, with a little know-how, there should be very little need to actually purchase Stimpaks from in-game merchants.
3Chems And Drugs
Usually Worth Avoiding Unless Specific Drugs Work Well For A Build
There’s a common theme among most of the items mentioned here. They can all be found pretty easily for free while out completing missions and exploring the map. Players will typically find that they will be selling Chems to merchants much more often than they will buy them.
Certain drugs like Med-X and Psycho can help to give players an edgein a tough firefight. So, occasionally, it may be worth picking up the odd Chem from a merchant. But, chances are the player will have a small stockpile of useful drugs locked away at their favorite settlement.
4Food And Drink
Food And Drink Can Be Found Almost Everywhere For Free
Finding food and drink inFallout 4is very easy. In fact, it is almost impossible to loot a place and not find at least some food and drink. Unless the player is playing in Survival Mode, food and drink aren’t that essential in the game.
But for those who do like to keep stocked up on the essentials, there’s no need to buy it. Just head on out to locations and loot.Players should rarely, if ever, need to purchase food and drink from in-game vendors.
5Ammunition
Ammo Is Always Easy To Find
Ammo is among the easiest things to find and craft inFallout 4.While players aren’t able to craft all ammo types, most of the basic ones can be made fairly easily and cheaply. Also, much like with all the other entries, looting bodies will give the player some extra ammo.
Over time, the player will amass quite a large stockpile of every ammo type. Buying ammo from a merchant is a costly affair. So, more often than not, it’s worth either crafting it or looting it from enemy corpses.
If a player is really struggling to find certain ammo types, then it may be worth switching to a melee weapon. Since melee weapons don’t need ammo to function, they are great for getting extra ammo. If an enemy is killed with a melee weapon, they still drop some ammo that the player can pick up and use.
6Fusion Cores
Don’t Pay The Premium For Fusion Cores
This entry is technically cheating because Fusion Cores count as ammo inFallout 4.That said, most players don’t use Fusion Cores to power weapons. They use them for Power Armor. Without Fusion Cores, Power Armor is pretty useless. Needless to say, Fusion Cores are an important part of the game.
There’s no need to pay the high merchant prices for extra Fusion Cores. Players can get their hands on Fusion Cores by taking them from Fusion Generators, looting enemy corpses, and finding them.
There are two particularly good places for finding Fusion Cores. The first location is Skylanes Flight 1981. Here, the player can find a nice handful of Fusion Cores. The second location is the Nuka-World Trainyard in the Nuka World DLC. This particular location is seen as the best place to farm Fusion Cores in the game.
