Summary

Thus far,Overwatch 2has experienced tremendous success with its collaborations. First, there wasOne-Punch Man, which came with some immensely popular skins for Kiriko, Soldier: 76, Genji, and Doomfist, as well as a charming trailer and menu screen inspired by the anime. As soon as players grew tired of pulling off Doomfist’s Rocket Punch while dressed as Saitama, the next collaboration took place, which saw Blizzard adding content based onDiablo, one of its other franchises. A thrillingTrials of Sanctuary PvE experiencecombined with standout skins like Lilith Moira made the event memorable, with the LE SSERAFIM K-Pop collaboration coming shortly after. It also provided an LTM in addition to a music video and five wildly popular skins.

Given how successful these IP collaborations have seemingly been forOverwatch 2, especially the LE SSERAFIM content and its outfits inspired by the musical group, it should come as no surprise that Blizzard has more collaborations in store. Not only was this mentioned on an extensive roadmap for the hero shooter that released after the cancelation of Hero Mode and PvE skill trees, but the large number of crossovers was referenced again at Blizzcon 2023. Now, fans know that at least one of these crossovers will be video game related thanks to one of SVB_’s interviews with Executive Producer Jared Neuss. While fans may instantly think of all the opportunities forOverwatch 2collaborations,FortniteandCall of Dutyfeel like the most realistic possibilities.

Why Overwatch 2 is Likely to Crossover With Fortnite and Call of Duty

Fortnite Has Consistently Shown That Nothing is Off Limits

The undisputed champion of video game collaborations,Fortnitehas shown time and time again that anything can happen. No other game allows players to fight as Rick Grimes,Peter Griffin, Eminem, and nearly any Marvel or DC character they can think of. With past video game collaborations ranging fromDestiny 2andBorderlandstoHalo,God of War, andLeague of Legends, anOverwatch 2team-up feels like a natural direction to go in, especially because both games could benefit from it.

OnFortnite’s end,Overwatch 2heroes could become purchasable skins. While bigger characters like Winston and Reinhardt would not work due to their large hitboxes, some of the most popular characters like Tracer and Mercy could easily make the jump, with their weapons serving as harvesting tools.Emotes pulled directly fromOverwatch 2, back bling with the Overwatch logo, and other items like loading screens and music from Blizzard’s franchise could round out the bundles. As for what contentOverwatch 2could receive, some ofFortnite’s most iconic outfits could make the jump, such as an Agent Jonesy Soldier: 76 outfit, a Midas redesign for Cassidy, or a Cuddle Team Leader costume for Tracer. Beyond skins, items like the defaultFortnitedance or a Peely weapon charm could come toOverwatch 2.

Obviously,FortniteandCall of Dutyare not the only crossover options for Blizzard’s hero shooter, though they do offer the paths of least resistance.Destiny 2could work, butBungie is owned by PlayStationand Blizzard is owned by Activision, whileApex Legendsbeing owned by EA means there would be plenty of red tape - even ifOW2’s heroes would suitApex’s gameplay.

A Call of Duty Overwatch 2 Crossover Would Take Minimal Effort to Pull Off

While the justification for aFortnitecrossover is as simple as the game having already teamed up with countless developers, aCall of Dutycollaboration is just as easy to explain. AsCall of DutyandOverwatch 2are both Activision Blizzard IPs, there would be no need for lengthy discussions about rights to characters or splitting money. And, similar toFortnite, both games could benefit from a crossover. Reaper’s Hellfire Shotguns could become aCall of Dutyblueprint, as could Ashe’s Viper rifle, with both characters also receiving skins. InOverwatch 2, the skull mask-wearing Ghost could be added as well as otherCall of Dutyicons, with smaller cosmetics like Charms based onCoDZombies. Speaking ofCoDZombies, an LTM inspired by the co-op mode could make use ofOverwatch 2’s PvEmechanics, ensuring that the crossover is even more memorable.
