Some footage fromThe Outlast Trialshas been unveiled, which gives a sneak preview of what fans can expect in Red Barrels' upcoming multiplayer survival title. Despite being arelatively low-budget video game, the first game in the franchise still managed to impress players with its horrifying visuals, with much of the terror coming from the need to utilize night-vision. The series has gone down as one of the most disturbing in the horror genre, and fans are no doubt looking forward to another follow-up.With itsfantastic use of darkness to really up the scares, not to mention the psychotic denizens that dwell within the environments,Outlastdid not hold back on frightening the life out of players. Said video features a preview ofThe Outlast Trials, giving a brief overview of the tension that awaits fans. While this new entry puts more emphasis on multiplayer survival, there is the opportunity to go it alone. As in the previous two games, it’s not possible to battle against enemies, but this time players will be able to have a customized load-out at the start with some items to help out, such as batteries for the night-vision goggles or lockpicks. It’s also possible that some previous characters may even make an appearance inTrials, according to Red Barrels.
The closed beta forThe Outlast Trialsbegins October 28and will go until November 1. This will provide an opportunity for some fans to get a taste of what’s in store in this Cold War-era version of the Murkoff Corporation. Given its cooperative lean, it’s likely some will compare it to games likeDead by Daylight, or it could even inspire similar multiplayer releases that gear towards, as the video says, “American chainsaw horror.”
Going down asone of the best psychological horror gamesin recent history, the firstOutlastreally shows just how disturbing gaming can be. The series very much front loads the scares from the word go, leaving subtlety to the likes ofSilent Hill.And even though the new game will allow fans to play with others, that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t be an utterly terrifying experience.
