It’s been a good ten years since Bethesdareleased a newElder Scrollsgame, withSkyrimbeing the last installment in the open world fantasy epic. WithPhil Spencer sayingElder Scrolls 6is not coming out until afterFable, which itself is not due until 2023, it’s going to be a while before fans become privy to information about the inevitable game’s development. However, one thing that is currently being speculated on is which systemsElder Scrolls 6will release for.

According to a recent tweet from VentureBeat contributor and industry insider Jeff Grubb, the nextElder Scrollsgame is being planned as an Xbox exclusive. The tweet was in response to someone who suggested thatStarfield, Bethesda’s upcoming space RPG, could potentially be coming out on PS5 sometime after release. Grubb disagreed with the notion, before adding thatElder Scrolls 6will also unlikely be getting a PlayStation port.

As many will already be aware,Starfieldwill be exclusive to Microsoft’s consoles, so it’s highly possible that the next game in theElder Scrollsseries will also follow the same route. While it might not be a popular choice among fans who own a PS5, or even those who have yet to get hold of an Xbox Series due to scarcities, Bethesda’s director and executive producer Todd Howard is happy with the decision. For one, it will likely alleviate some issues from a studio perspective, as it will be working on the game for one console rather than two or more.

A similar thing could happen withTES6. It also makes sense in some respects from a business perspective. WithMicrosoft acquiring Zenimax and with it Bethesda last year, it would seem obvious that the company would want to make future projects exclusive to its own line of consoles. But, again, owners of a PS5 who are fans of theElder Scrollsgames will unlikely see the positives in this. Of course, it’s worth saying at this point that there’s been no official word from any of the aforementioned companies.

However, there may be a case forThe Elder Scrolls 6being an Xbox exclusive. With Sony having access to some highly successful titles, such as the reboot ofGod of War, andHorizon Zero Dawn, new Bethesda games being on the Xbox Series X|S could balance the scales a little more evenly. It’s also likely to be out on PC, so there will still be a wealth of gamers who will have access to it. Just not PlayStation or Nintendo owners, it seems.
