Summary

Going on five years since its 2019 announcement,Hollow Knight: Silksonghas undoubtedly been through a rigorous development process. As such,Silksongis one of themost anticipated games of 2024, though Team Cherry has yet to confirm if the game will be launched this year. The indie game will likely yield a richly crafted Metroidvania experience similar to its predecessor, but there’s still a case to be made for DLC to be expected at a later date.

For some, the idea of contemplating extensive DLC forSilksongbefore the release of the base game may appear premature. However, considering how long the game has been in production, it seems plausible that it will debut with an immense amount of content. After all, it’s already been verified by Team Cherry thatSilksongwill be much larger thanHollow Knightwith at least 100 different checkpoints while the original only had 41. For the average playthrough,Hollow Knightequaled around 30 hours in the main storyline, which could be quite telling for its sequel.

Hollow Knight: Silksong May Be So Complex That It Needs DLC

Silksong’s Long Development Suggests That Silksong is Massive

Silksong’s delays could be attributed to various reasons, but one plausible theory suggests that its incredibly intricate storyline plays a large part. WithSilksong’s sprawling world and diverse cast of characters, crafting a finale that does justice to its scope may be a difficult hurdle to overcome.

Granted, most games that receive additional content already have a concluded storyline. However,Hollow Knight’sDLCisn’t just remarkable for its quality. Not only did it deliver four distinct updates that deepened the existing narrative, but it may have also set a new standard for post-launch expansions.

The Anticipation of DLC Could Keep The Hype for Silksong Alive

Though it’s safe to say that the buzz around the 2D adventure won’t be dying anytime soon, letting players explore the world of Pharloom or Hallownest once more via DLC may not be a bad idea. For instance, if theGrimm Troupe finds its way to Pharloom, it could be exciting to see them in the next DLC if they aren’t already slated for the main storyline. Indeed, each expansion brought with it a wealth of incredible content, leading to some of the best bosses or moments of the entire experience, and the same could be possible forSilksongDLCs.

Of course,Silksongbegan as a DLC chapter itself, so it may have reached a conclusion that doesn’t warrant post-launch additions. It could very well be that the game is so large that what could have been DLC is going to be included from day one.

Interestingly,Hollow Knight’s post-release updateswere fueled by a Kickstarter that existed due to a lack of funding and time for the original game. Seeing as the former shouldn’t be an issue, DLC forSilksongmay not be in the cards if Team Cherry has decided that it found a fitting ending for its characters. Nevertheless, should the indie developer choose to introduce additional content in the future, dedicated fans of the franchise would undoubtedly welcome it.
