The past week or so has seen the Marvel brand at its most gratuitous. There have been new movies reveals for the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, new movie trailers likeBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, and major confirmations like theDaredevil: Born Againseries that features Charlie Cox.However, in the games department, perhaps the biggest “reveal” is the newBlack Panthergame.

Now, reveal is a strong word because EA has said absolutely nothing about thisBlack Panthergame. The only reliable information on it comes from known insider Jeff Grubb, who has been right on numerous projects in the past, including the newStar Wars Jedi: Survivortitle. It should still be taken with a grain of salt, but it does sound really promising.

Information is limited because thenewBlack Panthergame is apparently early in development. How early remains to be seen, but it’s likely years away. It is titled Project Rainier and is being made by a new EA studio led by ex-Monolith VP Kevin Stephens. Story and gameplay-wise, all that’s been said is that it’s an open-world single-player game where players become the next Black Panther. It’s not certain yet if this means players take on the role of T’Challa succeeding T’Chaka, or is something else entirely. Still, this is good news.

EA’s Black Panther Game is Single-Player, Like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

For many, it’s easy to associateEA with multiplayer games, as it seems to have put a lot of attention there over the past few years. However, not everything can be as successful asApex Legends, and many gamers will always prefer single-player experiences. That is why EA’sStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Ordertitle was so successful, and this success has left a huge mark on EA—a company that seems to be looking more into single-player titles since.

The continuance of theStar Wars Jedifranchise, the emphasis on single-player titles at BioWare, thereportedly single-playerApex Legendsgame, and now thisBlack Panthergame are all proof of EA’s renewed push in the single-player space. It’s hard to say what exact lessons could play into each game, but the emphasis on single-player is enough.Black Pantherseemingly diverges fromStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Ordersince it is a full-blown open-world game, but it has to carve out its own identity.

It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this title in the coming years, whenever EA is ready to show more. Hopefully, the success of this title, as well as many others, will ensure that EA keeps up the push of single-player titles.
