Enjoy the list!

10Outpath: First Journey

Technically this is not a full game release, but rather a taster title, released as the first chapter while the developers perfect the recipe for the full game release. However, it is already drawing a lot of praise for what is already in place.

Outpathhasa style likeMinecraft, with gameplay likeForager, with clicker elements. At the same time, is has a very relaxed vibe, no pressure to rush or fight, just the idea of collecting resources, farming, then constructing a living area and sculpting the land at whim. Surprisingly deep, and well worth a try.

9Blacktail

This is a game that dazzles with magnificent graphics representing a really surreal fairy-tale world. Players take the role of a 16-year-old girl who faces the most challenging time of her young life when facing the depths of her past as well as her present.

Blacktailis defined by acompelling archery combat systemthat takes skill to learn, and also an interesting morality system that directly affects the game world around the player. Although the gaming industry does struggle for fresh ideas, the game concept does feel fresh and new. For that reason, it comes as a recommended experience.

Blacktail is constantly lying to the player. Trust nothing.

8Depersonalization

Some games really don’t fit into pigeonholes. Let’s use Steam’s tag page to try and define this game. An anime, strategy RPG, card-battler with mystery, puzzles and roguelike elements. Yet, even with that description, it still doesn’t help to fully describe what the game has to offer.

A pervading theme is that eachplay-through will be different. The game uses multiple modules which have multiple variant routes throughout, and lead to multiple endings. The character and personality traits of the main character will directly affect what game events trigger, leading to completely different experiences on each play-through. A most intriguing use of gamers' time.

7Warsim: The Realm Of Aslona

Here is where a niche corner of the gaming community makes a plea to the broader community. A text-based game is not what many gamers imagine playing as they polish their gleaming power rigs. But seriously, just try this one!

Warsimis one of the deepest, most dynamic games players will ever experience. Players rule a kingdom in absolutely whatever way they choose, and must live with the consequences forever after. The writing is sterling and imaginative, and the options are basically limitless thanks for a procedural generation system. There are over 94 million potential races that can be part of a game play-through. If the time ever came to try something outside the regular comfort zone, this game is it!

6Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator

It would be safe to say that not many gamers have been waiting years for a good alchemist simulator. But just like a good massage, sometimes the things we do not actively wish for are sometimes the things that can be most beneficial.

The game basically tasks players withcrafting potions and tincturesto meet the needs of the village. Exploration is encouraged, leading to trying out new and outrageous mixtures and trying to sell them. The game recipe is unique enough and polished enough to recommend to almost any gamer. Give it a go!

5Lil Gator Game

The seemingly childish concept of running around as a cutesy gator making friends with the local populace may not appeal. Be careful, because that quick assumption may deprive gamers of a truly special experience.

4Chained Echoes

Looking at screenshots won’t help anybody buy the best game. That is where the Steam game store has some limitations. The images forChained Echoesare very similar to hundreds of others titles. But the game itself stands out so far from the crowd!

It is an epic tale developed by just one developer who made this his work of passion. A brainchild boosted withlove and respect for JRPGsand games in general. It is so well-written, so exquisitely designed, so fluid and compelling that it can literally be recommended to any PC gamer in existence. This is really a work of art!

3Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 – Reunion

Since theFinal Fantasy VIImarket has been growing exponentially in recent years, it may be useful to identify this latest release. It is the prequel to the originalFFVII, but fully HD remastered.

It has the usualFFVIIflair andstory-telling panache, following the story of Zack Fair and his history with the infamous Shinra Inc., leading up to the events of the main game with Cloud. 2High On Life

From thecreators ofRick and Mortycomes this zinger of a comedy action FPS with lots of aliens. It is a zany, unpredictable and whimsical adventure, but with a very solid and polished game lying underneath the frenetic colors.

The weapons used are actually aliens themselves. Want to fire a gun? Squeeze a fish-like alien that fires bullet-like globules from its backside. Want to stab somebody? Use a little knife-based alien called…Knifey. Forget the usual predictable gameplay pathways, and get mesmerized by the abstract, and sometimes disturbing, delight ofHigh on Life.

1Dwarf Fortress

Come on, everybody knew this was coming!Dwarf Fortresshas been developed by the same 2 brothers for the last 20 years, constantly evolving like a mythical butterfly. Every new iteration brought forth fathoms more depth. Even this latest release onto Steam is not the end goal for the dedicated brothers, who state that they still have many more plans for future additions.

Players manage a colony of dwarfs and get to construct and evolve a vast and intricate world, living and breathing in so many different ways. While the graphics are cute but simple, the actual game lying underneath goes down so many layers that it never seems to end. Every single possible character, action and event is designed in such insane detail that the gamers can feel the love the creators put into it.
