The Starfield Direct also saw the reveal of the game’s Constellation Edition and twoStarfield-themed Xbox accessories in a new Xbox headset and controller.One of the neat features of the Xbox Series X/S consoles is the addition of animated dynamic backgrounds. Over the years Xbox has added backgrounds from both first and third-party games likeHalo Infinite,Pentiment, Dead Space, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Redfall,and most recentlyDiablo 4. The background is a dark screen with white topographic lines that swirl slowly. The theme is fitting forStarfield,as topographical lines have been featured in a lot fo the game’s art so far and the massive space-faring RPG will have players exploring the topography and environments of thousands of planets.
That said, many people under the tweet were underwhelmed by the new background, calling it generic and hoping for Xbox to release a more exciting and colorful one uponStarfield’s September 6 launch. It’s not outside the realm of possibility for a single Xbox game to have more than one dynamic background, as 2021’sHalo Infiniteprovided fans with two of them - one of the game’s cover art and an action shot of Master Chief protecting a marine from Needler fire. With that, it’s possible that fans could seeStarfield’s gorgeous cover art animated into a background, or perhaps some other dramatic scene fromStarfield’s vast array of planets.
Xbox’s dynamic backgrounds have typically been free additions, so it’s strange that one of them is being locked to a special edition controller. Perhaps thisStarfieldbackground will be made available for everyone at the game’s launch and that its exclusivity is simply a limited time bonus for early adopters of the controller. Whatever the case, it’s clear that Xbox has been stepping up its dynamic background consistency in recent months, as they’ve been few and far between since the 2020launch of the Series X|S.
