When playersspeak to the miners of CydoniainStarfield, a topic of conversation that always comes up is the Heart of Mars. Most miners will warn the player to stay away from the Heart, but Laylah Pulaski is the exception. If players find and speak to her, they can begin the mission “Heart of Mars” and find out what the legend is all about.

As missions go, this one isn’t very hard to find or very difficult. In fact, mostStarfieldplayers can finish it in under five minutes. The real question is, what happens once the mission is over?

How to Start The Heart of Mars

While players can ask any of the miners about the Heart of Mars, only Laylah will explain what the legend is about and where to find it. During the day, Laylah usually mines the rock deposit at the base of the big staircase, and at night she sleeps in her bunk in the miner’s quarters.

While Laylah has something to say to players if they completedthe “Red Tape” missions for Trevor, the “Heart of Mars” mission can begin at any point in the game. Laylah will explain that a miner once saw an incredibly large, pure lump of titanium in a cave, but no one who went searching for it has ever returned. She’s willing to give players the coordinates to the cave, but only if they’re brave enough to risk the curse.

The cave is on another part of Mars,so use the planetary mapto select the cave’s location. Once there, enter the cave, follow the objective marker to a large lump of titanium, and use a cutter to mine it. It’s just that simple.

Players can then head back to Laylah and tell her about their accomplishment. Laylah is surprised because the Heart of Mars is supposed to be a wild goose chase, but players have somehow gone to the wrong location and found exactly what she described. The mission ends with a 100 XP reward, but no credits.

What Can You Do with the Heart of Mars?

Unlike other minerals, the Heart of Mars doesn’t count as a resource. Instead, the game sorts it into the miscellaneous section of the inventory screen. It has a mass of 10 kilograms, a value of 28,000 credits, and no other properties.

That value is how players can get credits for this mission. WhileStarfieldvendors only buy items for one-eighth of their value, a characterwith four points in Commercecan get 4462 credits for it.

Players could also set the Heart of Mars on display somewhere on their ship or in an outpost. The rock has an unusual shape and appearance, but it doesn’t fit into any display cases. This means players must set it out on a table or other makeshift display.
