Summary

Starfieldplayers are requesting that Bethesda add an important quality-of-life feature to the game, saying that a transmog system for suit and helmet customization would be a dramatic improvement. Bethesda’sStarfieldis out now and has delivered the sprawling space epic that fans ofThe Elder ScrollsandFalloutwould expect. There are dozens of spacesuits inStarfield, though not all are visually unique. Still, it’s enough forStarfieldplayers to want to customize their appearance without worrying about each suit’s perks.

Transmog systems have grown increasingly popular and more widely available than ever in recent years. Historically, transmog systems have been associated with MMOs, likeinWorld of WarcraftandFinal Fantasy 14. These are games with lots of gear sets and a transmog system allows players to display their personality or achievements without being restricted by associated power levels. Transmog systems have been found more in single-player and co-op RPGs lately, too.Cyberpunk 2077andRemnant 2are recent examples.

WhileStarfieldhas a diverse range of character customizationoptions and gear, it does not feature a transmog system. A recent post on Reddit within theStarfieldcommunity shows that players would very much like Bethesda to consider adding a transmog system in a post-launch update, though. The post in question says that Bethesda has been listening, so maybe it will respond to players' requests for a transmog update.

“There are so many cool suits and helmets that I get that end up being like 40 points worse than my gear,” says Reddit user DonoBoomin. They’d like a transmog system to wear what they want while still being strong. Another user mentions wishing to use theConstellation weapon skinsfor all of their guns and weapons, saying, “I want to represent.” Others say they’re willing to suffer bad stats on their armor to look cool.

While transmog systems for gear are being seen in more and more RPGs, it isn’t something that Bethesda has ever implemented. There’s no transmog inSkyrimorFallout 4. It’s unclear ifBethesda’s tech forStarfieldwould even support a transmog system. Yet Bethesda has released substantial updates for its games in the past. Never say never.

There are currently no plans to introduce a cosmetic transmog system toStarfield. Bethesda hasn’t acknowledged or commented on the topic. This is something that theStarfieldcommunity is discussingand nothing more. That doesn’t mean it’s not possible in the future. IfStarfieldfans want a transmog system, now’s the time to let Bethesda know.

Starfieldis available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
