Summary

Star Warscould be looking to return to its film roots and shying away from Disney Plus shows likeThe Mandalorianshortly. Thanks to studios still refusing to negotiate in the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, or perhaps simply out of a desire to simplify things, Lucasfilm and Disney seem ready to shake things up regarding its current flagship series,The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorianseason 3 saw many criticisms among fans, even if series starPedro Pascal appears to favor one particular change. Some blame one shift behind the scenes, with co-creator Dave Filoni taking less of an active role in the development of that season. But now, there appear to be some potential changes that make Filoni’s shift of responsibilities seem almost insignificant.

A new scoop fromMakingStar WarssuggestsThe Mandalorianseason 4 will be reworked entirely into a theatrical film. Whether this has more to do with criticisms or the strike is unknown. However, one of the driving motivations behind this alleged plan is the upcoming crossover movie set to tie in all the stories in the various Disney PlusStar Warsseries. According to the report, which is currently unconfirmed by any official sources, the higher-ups have suggested transforming the story of season 4 into a movie script to create a smoother transition into the crossover.

The Mandalorian’s big climax moviealready seemed like a decent idea when first introduced. After all, it would be the culmination of at least 3 different shows' stories between its namesake, includingAhsokaandThe Book of Boba Fett. Once again, it’s worth mentioning that this is an unsubstantiated rumor. But unlike regular outlandish claims from more reactionary sources, such as those claiming Lucasfilm will fire its most well-liked executives and retcon the most well-reviewed recentStar Warsmovies, this one seems much more grounded. By extension, it’s also more plausible.

With Filoni attached as director and Jon Favreau as producer (while presumably also writing alongside Filoni), both the crossover film and this newly reworkedThe Mandalorianseason 4 would likely perk up the ears of manyStar Warsfans.Filoni’s contributions to the franchisehave been widely praised over recent years, so it seems like a no-brainer to keep him personally involved. At the moment, the rumor source suggests that the executives are particularly attached to this new lead-up movie possibility, while the actual creators themselves have yet to comment.

Favreau has saidhe wantsThe Mandalorianto keep goingfor as long as possible, so it’s unclear whether this rumored movie will serve as a harbinger of the end or more of a new beginning. Between plenty of beloved characters like Pascal’s Din Djarin, the adorable Grogu, and Katee Sackhoff’s endearing fan-favorite Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze, there’s still plenty more life left in this particular story. Only time will tell how things end up resolving.
