Marvel’s Spider-Man 2carries on the Marvel tradition of after-credits scenes, with the very last scene in the game’s main story introducing a new character that some fans may not be familiar with.Spider-Man 2’s story features all kinds of iconic characters pulled from theSpider-Mancomics, though some are more recognizable than others.
This article has MASSIVE SPOILERS for Spider-Man 2, so come back after finishing the game.
Upon wrapping upSpider-Man 2’s main story, players will be treated to a variety of scenes that help set the stage for the inevitableSpider-Man 3. Some of these scenes are blatant teases for villains that will be featured in theSpider-Man 3game, whereas others are more subtle about what they mean for the future ofInsomniac’sSpider-Mangame universe.
In the very last scene of the game, players see Miles Morales getting ready for a dinner with his mother and her new boyfriend. It’s revealed that her new boyfriend is Albert Moon, who happened to bring along his daughter, Cindy. Players don’t get to see Cindy Moon’s face, but it’s clear from the fact that this is the last thing in the game that she is supposed to be a big deal. Despite this, it’s quite likely that many people that beatSpider-Man 2’s main story willnot know who Cindy Moon is.
Spider-Man 2 Cindy Explained
HardcoreSpider-Mancomic book fanswill recognize Cindy Moon as the superhero Silk. In the comics, Cindy was bitten by a radioactive spider and, as tends to happen in the Marvel universe, acquires spider-based superpowers as a result. Silk’s powers are very similar to Peter Parker’s, though her Silk-Sense is more powerful than Peter’s Spider-Sense, and she has organic webs (like Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man) that shoot out of her fingertips as opposed to the webs that Peter makes in a lab.
Silk has had an active presence in Marvel comic books for about a decade now, and has appeared in multiple video games over the years, but hasn’t been featured much in the mainstream. A version of Cindy without her spider powers is inSpider-Man: HomecomingandAvengers: Infinity War, but she hasn’t been seen since, and it’s unclear if she will evertake on the mantle of Silkin the MCU.
Future film projects should make Silk much more recognizable to casual fans, as the character is getting her own TV series in the form ofSilk: Spider Society, and she is also set to be featured in an animatedSpider-Manmovie alongside Spider Woman andGwen Stacy. Silk’s increased popularity should work in the favor of the eventualSpider-Man 3, as this post-credit scene inSpider-Man 2is clearly setting her up to be a prominent character in the next game.
If Silk is featured inSpider-Man 3as expected, it will be interesting to see exactly what role she takes on in the new game. The most obvious thing to do would be to make Silk a new playable character. The ability toswitch between Peter Parker and Miles MoralesinSpider-Man 2has earned a great deal of acclaim, so adding a third character to the mix seems like a great way to make that concept feel even bigger in the next game.
