The world ofSons of The Forestis a dangerous one. Whether they’re alone orusingSons of The Forest’s co-op mode, players will struggle to keep themselves hydrated, fed, and safe from the mutants roaming the island.
With death around every corner, players need to be prepared,familiarizing themselves withSons of the Forest’s various systems. Whether it’s the new AI companions or the overhauled building system, everything in the game that’s not a threat is a tool for survival.

Still, it’s impossible to be 100% prepared. Like in any video game,Sons of The Forest’s threats will eventually kill the player. To keep their progress, it’s best to save early and often.
How to Save in Sons of The Forest
Sons of The Forestdoesn’t have an autosave system. The game is still in early access, so that feature might be added later, but considering that the game’s predecessor,The Forest, never had autosave either, it’s best not to get hopes up.
Thankfully, saving isn’t too arduous.Sons of The Forestjust asks that the player goes to sleep. They can’t sleep anywhere, which would be uncomfortable and dangerous, but shelter isn’t too hard to come by.
If they’re lucky, players will stumble onto prebuilt shelters on their own, such as an abandoned campsite or bunker. Enemies still roam as the player sleeps, however, and some spots are safer than others.
The more reliable option for players is building a shelter themselves. The simplest one requires only two components: a stick and a tarp. Both of these can be found near the start point, either from cutting down plants or looting containers.
As one might expect, this tent doesn’t offer much by way of protection, either from the mutants orthe shifting weather. It will do for the first few nights, butplayers need to quickly come to grips withSons of The Forest’s crafting systemand start building more resilient structures.
Once they’re surrounded by sturdy cabin walls, players can rest easy, or at least rest easier, on a handcrafted bed. All they need is 16 sticks and duct tape, the latter of which can be found in supply crates scattered around the map.
