Destiny 2’s PvP activities rarely ever go for an extended period without receiving some kind of criticism from the game’s player base. Generally, these criticisms boil down to balancing issues: “some class abilities are overpowered,” “there are too many cheaters,” “the Telesto’s bugged again” — things like that — criticism not too different from what other first-person shooters receive. However, one fan believes that the major flaw inDestiny 2’s PvP is something else less discussed.
Going by the username “UselessDeadMemes” over on Reddit, thisDestiny 2fan created a post stating they believed that the worst of the worse experiences generated inDestiny 2’s PvPstem not from gunplay but from the maps themselves. From their experience, the designs ofDestiny 2PvP maps are not optimized enough to stop players from being consistently spawn-killed, and judging by their post’s comment section, they’re not the only one who thinks this.

The majority of individuals lending their opinions to the post seem to more or less agree with its overall sentiment. Some commentors provided detailed descriptions of how they’ve been spawn-killed, reliving horrors such as being burned alive by Witherhoard’s fire before their spawn animation ever completed or spawning into the super of an enemy who just killed them with it not even a few moments ago. Others pointed out theDestiny 2maps that wronged them, like Distant Shore and Dead Cliffs.
When combined with the other mentioned issues players normally have withDestiny 2’s PvP, it’s easy to see why so many of them seem to have a problem with it. Admittedly, though, balancing a PvP game type is never easy, especially when developers have to consider the fact that player avatars have supernatural, otherworldly powers. Maybe when Bungie introduces the next new maps withtheWitch Queenexpansion, it’ll also have a solution for the spawn issues they seem to suffer from.
New PvP maps don’t make their way intoDestiny 2too often. The most recent additions the game received were Widow’s Court, Twilight Gap, and Fragment, all of which arrived years ago withDestiny 2’sShadowkeepexpansion back in October 2019, and out of all of those maps, Fragment was the only one not repurposed fromDestiny 1. However, Bungie did state thatnew Crucible mapswould arrive with Season 16 andThe Witch Queen, so that’s something players have to look forward to.
Destiny 2is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
