Shazam! Fury of the Godsunderperformed on its opening weekend, but the movie still has plenty of people talking, and not all the talk is the kind director David Sandberg wants to hear. The director recently shot down a rumor about Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman cameo.

Shazam 2received mixed reviews from audiences and critics. A new accusation was recently thrown at the film, and Sandberg shut this one down quickly. During a dream sequence early in the movie, a Wonder Woman cameo is teased in one of Billy’s dreams. Unfortunately for Billy, it’s not Gadot who greets him that time, but Djimon Huonsou as the wizard Shazam. In the end, however, Gadot does make acameo as Wonder Woman inShazam 2, arriving at Billy Batson’s funeral to bring him back to life.

Due to some perceived editing quirks and footage surfacing of Gadot’sbody double being used to film the Wonder Woman cameoscene, fans have begun voicing their doubts that Gadot was ever actually on set. In a Twitter post responding to claims that Gadot’s cameo was created using Deepfake technology, Sandberg posted a video of himself directing Gadot remotely. He explained that a visa issue made it so he couldn’t go to London to direct, and Gadot couldn’t travel to Atlanta to film. He also clarified that Gadot’s body double was used to plan out what footage he would need from Gadot and to film the scenes in Billy’s dream that do not include Gadot’s face. “There is absolutely no deepfaking going on,” Sandberg said. “When you see Gal it’s 100% her.”

Sandberg said that the process used for planning Gadot’s cameo inShazam! Fury of the Godswas not new. “This is the approach we did on Shazam 1 for Superman.,” he said in another Twitter post. “Shoot with a double first, then get the required coverage with Cavill. Only the second part never happened on Shazam 1.” Sandberg is referencing the Superman cameo inShazam!that features a headless Superman because he couldn’t get Cavill to appear on-screen for the part. Because ofShazam! Fury of the Godsshot Wonder Woman’s dream sequence cameo similar to Superman’sShazam 1appearance, it was easy for fans to think that scene was the most they would see of the Amazon. For fans who made it to the movie without having her cameo spoiled, the reveal of Gadot at the end was a welcome surprise.

Unfortunately, this might be the last time audiences see Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Levi’s Shazam. Although a thirdShazam!movie was being floated, and Patty Jenkins had begun working on a thirdWonder Womanmovie, the possibility of either movie being produced is in question.Patty Jenkins is no longer working onWonder Woman 3andShazam! Fury of the Godsdidn’t perform as well as needed to secure its third installment. While both characters could make cameos in other projects, Levi and Gadot’s futures with the DCEU are decidedly undecided.
