Samsung has revealed new information on its upcoming Odyssey G9 and G7 curved gaming monitors this week. The Korean tech giant says the new displays will have 240hz refresh rates and 1ms response times, bringing some of the features of the company’s QHD televisions to a more PC gaming-friendly format. Both models are set to launch next month, but pre-orders are available today.
Initially revealed at CES last January, the Odyssey G9 features a 49'' curved screen with a 5120 x 1440 QLED display and a 32:9 aspect ratio. Samsung is positioning theultrawide monitoras a luxurious alternative to a dual-monitor setup, and the eye-catching design features a large, circular RGB light feature on the back for players to customize to their liking with 52 different colors and five effect options.

With a $1699 price tag, the Odyssey G9 experience won’t come cheap, but it’s a compelling offering for PC enthusiasts looking to up theirmonitor game. For the more economically-minded, the Odyssey G7 (seen below) offers similar features but at a lower price point. Both the 27- and 32-inch models feature curved designs, RGB lighting, and 2560×1440 QLED displays in a 16:9 aspect ratio; the 27-inch model will sell for $699, while the 32-inch monitor will retail for $799.
One of the biggest selling points for the Odyssey line is its 1000R curvature. According to Samsung, this is the first line of monitors to offer curvature of this magnitude in the hopes of deepening players' immersion and the sense of realism while gaming. A 1ms response time is also crucial when it comes to gaming, as it allows the monitor to instantly react to a player’s inputs.
The displays will be available for shipping and from the company’s retail partners on July 13, but pre-orders are available today.
Elsewhere in the world of gaming displays, ASUS and Nvidia announced a partnership earlier in 2020 to makethe world’s first 360hz monitora reality. Frame rate fiends will likely want to see what becomes of the ROG Swift 360hz before spending their cash on a display with a slower refresh rate, but Samsung’s flashy design work on its upcoming displays will be hard to ignore for fans in the market for a new screen to game on.
