Rockstar recently released a “thank you” tothose that worked onGTA 5andGTA Online, which many have taken as a sign that the company is saying goodbye to those games. The message reads: “Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped createRed Dead Redemption 2andRed Dead Online.” The message was added as part of thelatestRed Dead Onlineupdate, which added some new missions for players to do in the game. While Rockstar has not outright stated that this is meant to be a goodbye toRed Dead Redemption 2andRed Dead Online, that’s certainly how the community is taking it, and it does seem to be the studio’s intention.

TheRed Dead Onlineupdate came as such a surprise because Rockstar had previously indicated that it wasdone releasing major new content forRed Dead Online. It would be surprising if Rockstar released anything substantial forRed Dead Onlinemoving forward, so fans shouldn’t expect any big new content drops at any point in the near future. Instead, they can count on Rockstar directing its resources toGrand Theft Auto 6, which is in active development at the company.

Grand Theft Auto 6was finally announced earlier this year, though nothing has been shown of the game so far. All fans know in an official capacity is thatGTA 6exists, but leaks from reputable insiders have suggested thatthe game is set in Vice City and will feature a female protagonist. It remains to be seen if there’s any truth to those leaks, but with Rockstar supposedly aiming for a 2024 release, hopefully information on the game comes sooner rather than later.

Red Dead Redemption 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
