Those who have been fans of Pokémon since the very beginning might remember the “Pokerap” that would play at the end of some episodes of the classic cartoon. Those same fans might also remember the controversial announcement that many of the classic Generation 1 Pokémon would not be appearing in the upcomingPokémon SwordandShield. Recently someone remade the Pokerap to reflect these changes, and the result is both frustrating and hilarious.

For those who don’t remember the classic ’90s anime, some episodes ofPokémonwould end with the “Pokerap,” a really simple rap that just listed the names of all 151 of the original Pokémon and told kids they “gotta catch ‘em all.” YouTuber TooManyLuigis64 edited the music video to only include the 54 Gen 1 Pokémon that will show up inPokémon SwordandShield.
While being a really funny jab at the upcoming entry, it does a good job of illustrating just how sparse thenumber of classic Pokemonavailable will be. Although Charmander and series mascot Pikachu will be available, fellow starters Bulbasaur and Squirtle are noticeably absent, as well as many other fan favorites.
This is following all the fan backlash when it was announced back in June thatPokémon SwordandShieldwill not include every Pokémonmade so far, including about two-thirds of Gen 1. Following that initial reaction, producer Junich Masuda assured fans that just because some Pokémon won’t show up inSwordandShielddoesn’t mean they are gone forever, and they could still show up in future games. After all, with more than 800 Pokémon and even more coming out, it makes sense that eventually Game Freak wouldn’t be able to fit every single one into every game.
Fans are still upset, though, especially after a recent leak of both games’ full Pokedex roster revealed thatPokémon SwordandShieldwill only have 400 Pokémon, with 81 of them being brand new. That means along with 54 Gen 1 Pokémon, fans will only get 265 Pokémon from all the other generations. As a result, a lot of fan favorites have been cut, including legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. This definitely comes as a disappointment to many fans, but again, there’s already more than 800 Pokémon. Game Freak was going to run out of room eventually.
Nintendo hasn’t confirmed if these leaks are true, but it certainly looks like it could be, especially since the original tweet with the full Galar Pokedex list is now mysteriously unavailable.
