Shieldon and Bastiodon first appeared in Gen 4, and were exclusive toPokemon Pearl. Over the years, it seems the Shieldon-line has remained a version-exclusive Pokemon just like its counterpart, Cranidos, although there have been some exceptions. InPokemon Scarlet & Violet, you may catch Shieldon and Bastiodon, but only if you havePokemon Violet.
Since there aren’t any fossils to be found inPokemon Scarlet & Violet, Cranidos and Shieldon appear as wild Pokemon for Gen 9’s mainline game. The catch is that wild Shieldon only spawns in Terarium, the area exclusive to the Indigo Disk DLC. Fortunately, even if you don’t have the expansion pass, you can still get the shield-dinos through other means.
Where to Find Shieldon in Pokemon Violet
As long as you have completed “Victory Road,” “Path of Legends,” “Starfall Street”, and the Teal Mask story, you can access the Indigo Disk DLC. However, the Indigo Disk’s story mode will be locked off at a certain point until you complete “The Way Home,” the final main/story quest ofScarlet/Violet. Fortunately, you can still catch Shieldonwithout having to be in the postgame.
you may find Shieldon in theCanyon BiomeinTerarium/Indigo Disk, but only inPokemon Violet. Specifically, Shieldon spawns on a mountain in the center of the Canyon Biome, which can be reached by heading east from theCanyon Plazaand theCanyon Rest Area. You can refer to theorange objective flag on the above imagefor the exact location.
Shieldon’s level can be anywhere in the mid-50s to the mid-60s. Since you’re able to only go to Terarium after you’ve done the three main stories, your Pokemon should be around its level - or higher. The easiest way to catch Shieldon is to sneak up on it andget a surprise/back throw. However, if you can’t do this, then you’ll need to catch it the old-fashioned way.
If you’d prefer to catch a lower-leveled Shieldon, you can find it as a3-star Tera RaidPokemon, butonly in the Tera Raids of Terarium. 3-star Raid Pokemon are all level 35 upon capture. However, given the randomization of Tera Raids, this is a less-guaranteed method of catching Shieldon.

How to Evolve Shieldon into Bastiodon
Shieldon evolves into Bastiodon when it reacheslevel 30. The Shieldon caught in Terarium - including Tera Raids - will be a higher level than 30, so just level Shieldon up one more time to get it to evolve. If you want to bypass evolving Shieldon, you can try to find Bastiodon in Terarium’s4-star Tera Raidsinstead.
