Summary
A Dragon-type move inPokemon Scarlet and Violetthat is currently not working as intended will be fixed in one of the games' next patches. Currently, Dragon Cheer has been banned from some official competitive events until the fix arrives due to it being much stronger than intended.
Released in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetadded dozens of new entries to the beloved franchise’s already long list of moves. Among these is Dragon Cheer, or TM226, a buff that increases the critical hit ratios of the users' allies by two stages and one stage if they are Dragon-types or non-Dragon-types, respectively. This move is now planned to undergo some changes in the near future following reports of it not working as intended.
In a recentblog post, The Pokemon Company revealed that the effects of Dragon Cheer did not disappear even after the affected monsters have been switched out of battle. The move will be fixed inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s upcoming 3.0.1 update, which will be released in the middle of this month at the earliest. Play Pokemon, the official governing body of the series' competitive tournament circuit, announced that Dragon Cheer will be banned fromPokemon’s prestigious Championship eventsuntil the issue has been resolved. The move, however, will still be usable in Ranked Battles and other official competitions like Battle Stadium tournaments.
This is not the first timePokemon’s latest mainline games made changes to a seemingly broken move or mechanic. ApreviousPokemon Scarlet and Violetupdatenerfed the strong synergy between Dondozo and Tatsugiri. The announced patches to the games will most likely affect their established meta moves and strategies again, so players can expect the competitive scenes in both titles to be shaken up.
Aside from patch 3.0.1,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill also receive a free updateon January 11 that will wrap up the story lines of the games' two paid downloadable expansions, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. This so-called Epilogue Update is expected to give players the opportunity to catch Generation 9’s Mythical Pokemon, Pecharunt, as well.
These developments toScarlet and Violetwill just be the tip of the iceberg asPokemonis expected to have a lot more in store for its fans in 2024. New games are expected to be announced on this year’s Pokemon Day, which will fall on February 27. There is speculation that any new titles, whether original or a remake, will be set in Johto and Unova.
