The newest trailer forPokemon Scarlet and Violetshows off one of the franchise’s newest Gym Leaders, the Electric-type trainer Iono. Previous trailers for the next generation ofPokemongames have already introduced a wide cast of new characters from the Paldea region. Rival characters like Nemona and Penny have been joined by the first reveals of the region’sGym Leaders like the Ice-type Grusha. Now, the newest trailer for the upcomingPokemongames has unveiled another member of Paldea’s Gym Challenge with a livestream-inspired debut.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s newest trailer titled “Guess Iono’s Partner Pokemon” plays out as a broadcast hosted by the Electric Gym Leader, Iono. Iono’s debut introduces herself as the Gym Leader of the Paldean city of Levincia, as well as a “streamer and influencer” with a pair of blue and pink Magnemite hair clips. Iono tasks viewers with the challenge of figuring out her signature Pokemon, giving various hints based on questions from fans. Despite the obvious hinting in her hair clips, Iono confirms that her partner Pokemon is not Magnemite.

While a new Pokemon was not officially revealed during the trailer, Iono did give players hints about the new Electric Pokemon. Iono revealed the Pokemon has “two big bumps” on its head that are often mistaken for eyes, as well as its “body expanding and contracting” to generate electricity. Fans have already speculated that Iono’s partner Pokemon may beanother ofScarlet and Violet’s “regional fakes,“similar to recently revealed Pokemon like Wiglett. Iono concluded the trailer by teasing a reveal “next time,” suggestingScarlet and Violetmay receive another of her livestream-esque reveals.
Iono’s reveal trailer as the newest Paldean Gym Leader comes asPokemonScarlet and Violetare looking to make major changes to the Gym structure. Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have previously confirmed thatScarlet and Violetwill be shedding the game’s traditional linear structure with the shift to an open world. Players will be able to challenge Paldea’s gyms in any order they choose, though rumors have suggested Gyms inScarlet and Violetmay not have level scaling.
With just over a month left until the release ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have been giving fans plenty of reasons to be excited for the new Pokemon games. Alongside the open world changes,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill introduce the Terastal gimmickas a way for trainers to change a Pokemon’s type. Terastal Raid Dens will also introduce a major change to the game’s combat, bringing real-time elements toPokemon’s traditional turn-based combat. Iono will look to join a diverse cast of characters coming withPokemon Scarlet and Violetin November.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill release on November 18th for the Nintendo Switch.
