It looks like Team GO Rocket is causing problems forPokemon GO’sdeveloper Niantic as it is forced to disable encounters with the evil team. A little over a month afterlegendary Pokemon were fleeing before they could be captured, it seems that yet another major bug is disrupting players' enjoyment of the game.
After it took the world by storm in 2016,Pokemon GOhas continued to become a staple part of everyday life for its fans, so when bugs and glitches occur, it can be quite frustrating. Today’s news comes as the game begins to launch its events for April and is causing problems for those with Field Research related to defeating Team Go Rocket members in battle.

On April 9th, 2021, Niantic Support tweeted that Team Go Rocket encounters would be disabled while investigating errors relating to the evil team. It has been almost a day since the initial tweet at the time of writing, and no further news has been announced, and players still cannot encounter Team Go Rocket. Many players are voicing their frustrations as some cannot complete their Field Research tasks or quests in the replies to the tweet. Other players are concerned that Niantic may not fix the errorsin time forPokemon GO’sApril Community Day, which is always an active day for the player base.
If Community Day’s looming presence wasn’t enough of a reason for Niantic to fix the error as fast as possible, then there is also thenew ongoing Giovanni event. Throughout all of April, Team Go Rocket’s Leader will be using a Shadow Zapdos as his ace Pokemon, giving players a chance to capture one of the legendary bird Pokemon.
The problem is, to face Giovanni, players need to battle their way through grunts and admins, which takes time and effort, and players only have until the end of April to complete this event. Players cannot progress in their efforts to beat Giovanni because the encounters are disabled and are worried they will miss their chance to catch Zapdos if this error continues for much longer.
The good news is that Niantic does listen to player feedback. For example, it recently updated the egg system soPokemon GO’s players can see thepossibility of which Pokemon can hatch in each egg. This update came in response to some fans labeling eggs as becoming more like loot boxes due to their random nature and links to microtransactions. So there is a chance that the ongoing events will be extended to cover for player’s lost time, however, nothing is confirmed just yet.
