Pokemon GOplayers are furious with Niantic over the price of the Something Extraordinary Special Research ticket that rewards Keldeo. TheMythic Blade event that introduces Keldeoto the game is the latest in a string of “pay-to-play” events by the company and costs much more in other regions than its advertised United States price.

Pokemon GOplayers have had several spats with Nianticover issues with the game recently. As the game has aged, the game has strayed farther from its wholesome, community-driven mobile game and has leaned heavily into monetizing more parts of the game. Niantic has introduced Community Day ticketed special research pathways which offer more rewards for a low fee. But it has also begun expanding into introducing new Pokemon through more expensive events, starting with Galarian Mr. Mime, then both forms of Shaymin.

Pokemon GOplayers are now voicing their frustrations with the Mythic Blade event which introduces Keldeo and the price of the event’s ticket. On the r/pokemongo, players are reporting that the $7.99 price tag is more than the potential value Keldeo is worth and despite the “or regional equivalent” tag, is more expensive in some places than the conversion rate suggests. That is becauseNiantic raised the price of certain items inPokemon GOin some regionsearlier this year, but the Mythic Blade event is one of the first instances where those players affected really feel the difference in price.

According to one comment, the dollar-to-euro conversion rate for the ticket is still supposed around the $7.99 US price. But when doing the conversion of their listed price for the ticket hovered closer to $11 US dollars. There is also a decent likelihood that the Keldeo at the end of the Something Extraordinary research questline could have a poor IV stat spread. A Keldeo with poor IVs would put it behind Fighting and Water-type Pokemon that a trainer has already optimized for raids or GO Battle League.

The event tries to offer a cosmetic item, various limited-use items like incubators, and unique event spawns to lure players into the value of the ticket, but players in the comments of the lead Reddit post are still furious with Niantic. With over 700 comments and a 95% upvote rate, Redditors are in agreement that Niantic is pushingPokemon GOtrainers to their limits with the ticketed events and its global pricing. And as with Galarian Mr. Mime, Niantic could just offer it as a free reward in the future as part of a GO Fest or other specialPokemon GOevent.

With such a high rating on this post,Pokemon GOfans are at their limit with the monetization practices and are abandoning the game. Niantic’s aim to milk the company’s cash cow is alienating players. It often listens to the community’s concerns and the over-monetization of particular sectors of the game is becoming one of the game’s top issues. At this rate,Pokemon GOplayers' Mythical Wishis for Niantic is probably to ease up on the monetization.

Pokemon GOis now available on Android and iOS devices.
