Every five years or so, Game Freak releases remakes of its classic main seriesPokemongames, starting withPokemon FireRedandLeafGreenin 2004,HeartGoldandSoulSilverin 2009, andOmega RubyandAlpha Sapphirein 2014. Going by this pattern, thePokemonfranchise is actually overdo for remakes, but some fans think thatPokemon DiamondandPearlremakes are right around the corner.
Nintendo recently confirmed that aPokemon-themed Nintendo Directwill take place on Thursday, January 9 at 6:30am PT/9:30am ET. No details about what thisPokemonDirect will entail have been revealed, though it will supposedly include about 20 minutes of newPokemoninformation. Right now, Sinnoh, Gen 4, and Diamond and Pearl are all trending on Twitter, and it’s because some fans are convinced thatDiamondandPearlremakes are about to be announced.

It may seem odd thatPokemon DiamondandPearlremakes would be announced so soon after the release ofSwordandShield, but there are new main seriesPokemongames released nearly every year. Considering this, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to seePokemon DiamondandPearlremakes launch this coming holiday season, as 2019 hadSwordandShieldand 2018 hadLet’s Go PikachuandLet’s Go Eevee.
If Nintendo does announcePokemon DiamondandPearlremakes, one would hope that they would address some of the criticisms aimed at the original games. The originalPokemon DiamondandPearlgames earned some criticism for their slow pace and lackluster graphics (for the time), so hopefully those issues are addressed in the supposed remakes.
WhilePokemon DiamondandPearlremakes may be the most exciting newPokemongames that Nintendo could announce during the upcomingPokemonDirect presentation, there are many other possibilities as well. For example, Nintendo may use thePokemonDirect to reveal more information about thePokemon Home service, or maybe it will offer some more details aboutPokemon Sleep. Alternatively, a brand newPokemongame may be announced that’s completely different than anything fans have seen before.
Really thePokemonDirectcould announce just about anything, so fans of the franchise should be sure to tune in on January 9 at 6:30am PT/9:30am ET.
