Summary

A talentedPokemonfan artist is reimagining the seventh-generation Fire-type Incineroar as an Ice-type pocket monster. Incineroar is the fully-evolved version ofPokemon Sun and Moonstarter Litten. The powerful Fire-type is incredibly popular amongPokemonfans as it was heavily featured in the anime as one of Ash’s team members and was also included as a playable character inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.

When it comes toPokemonfan art, swapping types is a common practice. For example, recently, anothercreative fan transformed Gyarados into an Electric-type Pokemon. Because type-swapping starts with an established design to start from, this sort of fan art is popular with both creatives and observers. Artists enjoy flexing their creative muscles while fans get a fun glimpse into the creative process.

Reddit user harmonia_region transformed Incineroar into an Ice-type Pokemon as part of their ongoing collection they are creating, ahead of their fan series that will take place on social media. The artist previously released Ice-type versions of Litten and Torracat, Incineroar’s previous two forms, but the latest piece appears to be the most different from its source material. It even gets a new name, Glaciroar, presumably a play on the word glacier and the sound a lion makes. The artist has also released several unique Eevee evolutions as part of the series, most notably aDracula-inspired Dragon-type Eeveelutionjust before Halloween.

The design seems more influenced by wild cats than the original. Unlike Incineroar, which stands on its hind legs and takes inspiration from pro wrestling, Glaciroar looks to be much more graceful as it walks around on all fours. The artist even refers to it as the “elegant Fakemon” – Fakemon being a fan-coined term that refers to unofficial Pokemon designs. The community appears to be responding to the piece quite favorably as some even prefer this design over the original. If canon, Glaciroar might even rank amongthe best Ice-type Pokemon.

Due to Incineroar’s stats and ability Intimidate, which lowers the Attack power of the opposing Pokemon, the Fire-type was a popular choice for competitive play in previous generations. As the creature remains unavailable inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, however, it obviously hasn’t had the same opportunity to shine in recent memory.

That said, past starter Pokemon will be available inScarlet and Violet’s upcoming DLC, so fans will once again be able to capture Litten and evolve it up to Incineroar. The upcoming Indigo Disk DLC forPokemon Scarlet and Violetwill be the second and presumably final wave of new content for the games. It was recently announced that it will launch on December 14.
