Now thatPaper Mario: The Origami Kingexists officially, it’s gotten people paying closer attention toall of the other Nintendo-related rumorsthat have popped up in the past few months. After all, if the rumor of a newPaper Mariogame for the Switch can turn out legit, perhaps they have a solid chance of being real too, and that includes the rumor thatPikmin 3may be getting a Switch port.
Fans of Nintendo’s quirky real-time strategy series about tiny plant creatures are used to the long waits between new games. It’s been nearly seven years sincePikmin 3, the series’ most recent mainline title, was released exclusively on the underperforming Wii U, and all the fans have gotten since then isone 3DS spinoff titleand Nintendo’s insistence that a proper sequel is coming along.

In short, fans are hungry for anything they can get regarding a properPikmingame, but it sounds like they might not have to wait for much longer, as reports from earlier this week claimed that therumored Switch port ofPikmin 3will be a Deluxe editionthat will be released sometime very soon.
Adding fuel to that fire this weekend was Liam Robertson of DidYouKnowGaming and Unseen64. On Twitter, Robertson, a noted industry insider and reliable source ofinformation regarding unannounced games, replied to Video Games Chronicle’s article about thePikmin 3 Deluxerumor with the following: “Can corroborate this. I get the impression it’s been ready to go for a while.”
Robertson didn’t go into further detail, so it’s hard to guess why Nintendo might be sitting on a finished Switch version of the game. It is possible, though, that with the coronavirus throwing the company’s plans for 2020 into disarray, it’s still in the process ofrevising its release schedule for 2020 and beyond, conceivably keeping it from settling on a launch date forPikmin 3 Deluxe.
It’s possible that Nintendo may be able to remedy that soon and release the game before year’s end, as the rumors suggest, but fans should still take this news with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made and a date is officially set. Let’s not forget that Shigeru Miyamoto hasclaimed thatPikmin 4has been close to completion since 2015.
Pikmin 3is available for Wii U, with a Switch version rumored to be coming soon.
