Just before Halloween 2020,Phasmophobiaintroduced a new way to play co-op horror games. With the focus around using the microphone, players would take on the roles of ghost hunters trying to find evidence of the supernatural in buildings across America.Phasmophobiawas released with some innovative features like having the ghost understand some of players' questions. That being said, it has come a long way by adding new content and improving its mechanics.

The most recent update, Exposition, brought a load ofchanges and improvements toPhasmophobia.Everything from the tools to ghosts have received some form of new content or technical improvements. New Features and Content in Phasmophobia: Exposition

The biggest thing that was reworked in this update is the way sprinting works. Before, the player was forced to move at a crawl through each building, which was adrag inPhasmophobia’sPrisonand Asylum levels. Now players sprint at increased speeds for short durations, with the old sprint speed becoming the new walking speed. However, ghosts can now move faster too when they see the player and begin their hunt.

There is also some new content, such astwo new ghost types: the Goryo and Myling. There is also a new DOTS projector, which is meant to capture any movement by an entity that passes in front of it. In addition to the projector, almost all of the tools have received new skins and effects when they’re being affected by nearby entities. A ghost can now hear electronic equipment while hunting similar to player voices. The hunting phase for ghosts has recieved a lot of buffs overall.

Changes in the Update

Evidence has changed for all the ghost types, andthe DOTS projectornow has its own spot on the evidence list. The ghost’s hunt will no longer affect all electronics in range, instead focusing on the area that the ghost is hunting in at that time. Thankfully, the spirit box now has a number of icons that can tell players if they are being heard, as well as if the ghost is responding. There have also been lighting and sound changes on most maps, providing a more natural feel to the environments.

Additionally, the infrared sensor has been combined with the motion sensor, mostly due to the fact it had minimal functionality before. The outline for placing objects has been changed with improvements to visibility. Theparabolic microphone can pick up ghost noisesas well as random footsteps, but it now only works within a house. The tutorial has also been updated for those who need a refresher or want to learn how to use the new equipment.

It’s been nearly a year sincePhasmophobia’s release, and in recent months the game has had an average player base of 15,000 people. This is likely to increase as more people log on to check outthe new equipment and features. If Kinetic is able to keep even a fraction of this level of content coming out, it’s likely to sustain a strong fanbase all the way untilPhasmophobia’s official release date. That being said, it’ll also have to find new ways to shock and terrorize its fans.
