The wonderful cast ofPersona 5all get ther time to shine throughout the main game’s story, with each of them receiving plenty of character development during their many escapades asthe Phantom Thieves. However, because they all have their own unique dreams and ambitions, it begs the question of where exactly they end up after they see Joker off at the very end of the game.

For anyone who’s been wondering about the status of each of the Phantom Thieves after the base game, keep reading, as it’s time to take a deep dive into what happened to each ofPersona 5’splayable characters after they said their goodbyes.
10Ann Takamaki
Ann Aces Her Exams And Becomes An Even More Popular Fashion Designer And Model
Once Ann meets back up with her fellow Phantom Thieves inPersona 5: Strikers, it’s briefly mentioned that she got through her final term with only one failed subject, which is great going considering how nervous she always seemed about her grades during the main game. While it’s not exactly made clear whether Ann eventually decided to travel overseas as part of her studies, what does seem to be the case is that she gradually became even more well-known as afashion designer.
When Ann runs into Alice, a young girl who’s desperately trying to become a fashion designer herself, Alice states that she’s aware of Ann due to seeing her in a magazine, which just goes to show that Ann’s dream is still very much alive. Of course, she’s also just as fun and bubbly as she was in the base game, and her infectious personality still rubs off on all of her friends whenever she’s around them.
9Ryuji Sakamoto
After Barely Scraping Through His Final Term, Ryuji Is As Chirpy And Cheerful As Ever
Towards the end ofPersona 5, Ryuji explains to the group that he’s hoping to move away in a few months to be closer to a rehabilitation facility, in the hopes that he can finally start running again after his leg was broken by Kamoshida. When Joker fakes his death, there’s also a scene of Ryuji shopping for a new pair of sports shoes, and he even manages to make a full sprint inside Shido’s palace to save everyone from being killed, implying that his leg had already started to heal.
Although Ryuji doesn’t specifically state whether he finally decided to make the move or not, he does mention that he barely managed to pass through his final term, failing three of his subjects, which sounds pretty typical ofsomeone as lazy and carefree as him. Still, Ryuji seems to be very upbeat and positive inStrikers, which suggests that his worries about his physical condition and the bullying he faced from the track team are all in the past as he looks forward to the future.
8Makoto Niijima
Makoto Splits Her Time Between Hanging Out With Haru And Learning More About The Police Force
After the unfortunate death of her father, Makoto always dreamed of carrying on his legacy by becoming a police commissioner. As evident from the way she speaks topolice officer ZenkichiinPersona 5 Strikers, Makoto has clearly been brushing up on her knowledge of the police force, implying that she may already be on her way to becoming a commissioner herself.
When reuniting with her friends, Makoto also warns her allies about Haru’s horrendous driving skills, which suggests that the two ended up spending a lot of time together, something that makes a lot of sense considering that they graduated at the same time. Despite the two being at odds throughout the main game, Makoto has also fully made amends with her sister Sae by the end of the story, as she can be seen constantly updating her on recent events and even engaging in some casual conversations, which was never the case before.
7Futaba Sakura
After Becoming Much More Confident And Sociable, Futaba Decides To Join Shujin Academy With Her Friends
Out of all the Phantom Thieves, Futaba is undoubtedly the one who changes the most from the moment she first appears up until the end ofPersona 5, and even after that too. Although she starts off as a shut-in who lacks any sort of social skills, she mentions near the end ofRoyalthat she’s actually thinking about enrolling atShujin Academy, something that’s actually confirmed to be the case at the beginning ofStrikers.
This also proves that Futaba is now fully rehabilitated, and that the immense guilt that plagued her after the loss of her mother has finally started to subside, allowing her to live a fully functional life again. Of course, she’s still just as tech-savvy as ever, being the one to introduce the team to the brand-new EMMA app, and her interactions with other characters demonstrates that she’s much more open and sociable now than she’s ever been before.
6Yusuke Kitagawa
Yusuke Continues Pursuing His Passion To Become An Artist While Also Becoming A Massive Literature Buff
Yusuke’s underlying fiery passion for painting started to dwindle after his master, Madarame, was exposed as a fraud who was stealing his student’s art pieces, but it’s heavily implied that by the end ofPersona 5, Yusuke not only regained his love for artwork, but also picked up a few new hobbies too. Right at the end ofPersona 5 Royal, as Yusuke sits in front of a blank canvas, he quickly starts getting to work on a new piece after seeing the Phantom Thieves logo pop up on his phone, proving that the journey he’s shared with his friends has spurred him on to pursue his passion in life.
InPersona 5 Strikers, Yusuke also seems to have become somewhat of a literary buff too after separating from the gang at the end of the first game. When reading a novel by the famous author Ango Natsume, Yusuke is immediately able to notice the lack of feeling and passion in the work, and he also becomes very feverous about getting Natsume to admit to his plagiarism, which shows how deeply he still cares about the issue.
5Haru Okumura
After Her Graduation, Haru Takes On A Business Management Degree In The Hopes Of Taking Over Her Father’s Company
Although Haru shows up a lot later inPersona 5, she still plays an incredibly important role in the story, especially since her own father becomes one of the Phantom Thieves' targets. Unfortunately, the whole ordeal accidentally leads to the death of Haru’s father, which causes her great distress as she begins doubting whether what the Phantom Thieves are doing can be considered just.
Thankfully, after taking down numerousother evil individualswith the help of her friends, Haru is in a much better place by the end ofPersona 5 Royal, where she can be seen graduating after acing her third term. InStrikers, it’s also revealed that Haru eventually enrolled into a college where she studied business management, while also gearing up to become the head of Okumura Foods after her father’s passing. It’s fair to say, Haru remained pretty busy after going her separate ways from a lot of her friends at the end ofPersona 5.
4Morgana
Morgana’s Time Away From Tokyo Helps Him Accept His Origins And His Place In The World
Morgana leaves Tokyo along with Joker at the very end ofPersona 5, and seemingly stays with him to order him around just as he did in the base game. Since he’s literally cat, there isn’t really too much Morgana can get up to aside from hiding in Joker’s bag and dreaming about “Lady Ann”, but he does seem to be a lot more confident about his origins and the fact that he isn’t a human like everyone else.
Upon traveling back to Tokyo to meet up with the others, Morgana even states that he’s a little nervous because of how much time has passed, which is quite different to the usual loud and brash attitude that he used to have. If anything, the time away seems to have made Morgana much calmer and more relaxed, which definitely isn’t a bad thing considering how over the top he could be in the originalPersona 5.
3Ren Amamiya
Ren Finally Breaks Free From The Probation That Was Forced Upon Him In The Main Game
After being wrongly convicted of a crime he didn’t commit, Ren, also known as Joker by his fellow Phantom Thieves, is officially a free man after the events ofPersona 5. With his probation officially over,Ren is able to return to Tokyofor a summer vacation, without any of the worries about being apprehended by the police or scolded by the public. Outside of that though, it isn’t exactly known what Ren decided to do with himself after leaving his friends at the end of the game, though his relaxed and casual attitude does seem to still be fully intact.
Ren is clearly still as passionate as ever about helping those in need though, being the one to officially reform the Phantom Thieves as soon as it’s clear that a new danger is on the horizon. He also clearly still cares deeply for his friends, including Morgana, who has probably been ordering him around for the few months that he was away.
2Goro Akechi
Atlus Have Purposefully Made Akechi’s Fate Very Mysterious To Encourage Fan Speculation
The endlessly charismatic Goro Akechi is an incredibly mysterious character who’s fate is a little harder to discern compared to the other Phantom Thieves. While in the original game, he sacrifices himself to save his newfound friends, inRoyal, he vanishes along with Maruki’s dream world, but then also shows up for a brief moment in the very last scene while Ren is taking the train home.
Therefore, while it’s heavily implied that Akechi meets his demise in one way or another, Atlus has made subtle implications that he could still be alive and kicking, though how this could be the case seems very uncertain. Therefore, while there is still a slither of hope thateveryone’s favorite junior detectivemay show up again in some fashion in the future, it seems unlikely as it’s still suggested that Akechi sacrifices himself for the greater good at the end of each version.
1Sumire Yoshizawa
Sumire Learns To Let Go Of Her Sister’s Unfortunate Passing And Starts Living For Herself At The End Of The Story
Sumire, known as Kasumi for much of the game, is a character who only appears inPersona 5 Royal, and although she’s very involved in the main story, she’s more of a behind-the-scenes sort of character who doesn’t get as much development compared to some of the other Phantom Thieves. However, she does still confide a lot in the protagonist throughout the story, with it eventually being revealed that she’s actually extremely depressed about the death of her sister, which she feels was her own fault.
After facing a lot of hardships, and pretending to be her sister as a result of her guilt and broken mindset, Sumire eventually becomes much more optimistic about the life ahead of her after witnessing the heroic efforts of Joker and his friends. At the very end of the game, she even sends a picture to the player of her performing elegantly in her gymnastics class, while assuring Joker that she will learn to live on her own two feet, and will no longer hide behind a fake facade.
