Overwatch’s Summer Games event is rapidly approaching and Blizzard has finally revealed one of the new skins: the sleek and graceful Mermaid Symmetra. This new outfit turns Symmetra into a gorgeous creature of the deep, ready to defend the sea from otherOverwatchplayers.
A recenttrailer revealed a lot of fantastic skins forOverwatch’s heroes and villains, and fans will likely consider Mermaid Symmetra a worthy addition to the ranks. This slick outfit may not be beach-themed, exactly, but it has captured a certain magical Summer spirit.

The outfit consists of a small, strappy brown halter top reminiscent of cosplay armor, an ornate headdress decorated with large blue fins, fish scale-patterned leggings modeled after the legs of a wetsuit, a number of trailing fin-like skirt pieces, and seashell heels. Symmetra’s right arm is adorned with a thick silver bracelet and a small cloth fin accessory. Her cybernetic left arm takes on a more antique silver and cyan design, complete with a small armored pauldron. The result gives a very different feel from one fan’s proposedLifeguard Mercy Summer Games skin, but the more mystical and intimidating design of Mermaid Symmetra may be better suited for an action game.
In the short 18-second reveal video, it’s clear that Mermaid Symmetra also features white hair with a single loose bang, white eyebrows, seahorse earrings, and cyan nail polish on her organic hand. Her cybernetic hand features subtle fish scale decorations on the upper arm. These small details add to the skin’s otherworldly image. Mermaid Symmetra appears to have been designed around evoking a fantastical and even magical appeal for fans of the character. Her stern expression, outlandish outfit, and striking color scheme come together to create a stunning display of creativity, letting her stand out amongst this year’sOverwatchSummer Games skins.
As of writing, the Mermaid Symmetra skin appears to have been warmly received by fans, though some are still mourning the lost opportunity to see a Lifeguard Mercy skin. One fan has already posted a heart-filled edit of a screenshot from the Mermaid Symmetra reveal trailer. Another fan immediately compared the new skin to the Pokemon Vaporeon, which is also well known for being blue and covered in fins. However, many users simply chose to celebrate how excited Symmetra mains seem to be about the new skin. Whether the Summer Games event will add morecool details toOverwatch’s mapsremains to be seen, but this skin has clearly pleased a lot of fans.
