When Blizzard revealedOverwatch 2back in 2019, fans were excited at the tease of something new. There’s been little information detailed about the game since, and it still doesn’t have an official release date, but would-beOverwatch 2players may now have an idea of how much they’ll have to pay for the experience.

Overwatch 2is a bit unique when it comes to video game spin-offs and sequels. Rather than taking over and leaving its predecessor behind, Blizzard intends to integrate the two so that players can seamlesslytransfer progress fromOverwatchtoOverwatch 2. This may have led some players to think that the follow-up would be sold like an expansion or DLC, but that appears to not be the case.

Overwatch’s sequelrecently popped up on GameStop’s German website. Whether or not the game listing is simply a placeholder is unclear, but GameStop listsOverwatch 2as being a full-price game, at €70.77, or just shy of $80 USD. The listing also notes that the game is slated for release on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

At this time, Blizzard hasn’t released any official comment on the listing, so it remains a mystery as to whether it’s accurate or simply a placeholder. $80 for a new game is a bit steep, especially if it’s not a collector’s edition, which may point to the price being inaccurate. Also notably absent is any mention of thePS5 and Xbox Series X. This either adds to the doubt regarding this claim or indicates that the game will launch before those new consoles arrive on the market this holiday shopping season.

Although some players might be disappointed at the notion of the game being sold for full price, it aligns with what game director Jeff Kaplan has previously stated. He noted thatOverwatch 2is clearly a sequel, not a DLC, so it stands to reason that it will be sold as a full-fledged sequel, at a full game price. Although $80 may be asking too much, it would be reasonable for it to sell for the same price as any other new game, sinceOverwatch 2is adding PvE, new maps, and new heroes.
