Garp is one of the most powerful characters in the world ofOne Piece. Known to have been a legendary figure from the times of Gol D. Roger, Garp is a character that nearly everyone in theOne Pieceworld fears. So far, fans have seen very little of him and combat. In fact, the only times when he showed the fans glimpses of his powers was when he attacked Luffy after the events of the Water Seven saga by throwing cannonballs at him and, later, during the war of Marineford, where he stopped Marco, the First Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, from rescuing Ace.

Garp possesses legendary strength, however, it is unfortunate that Oda did not give the fans a glimpse of his ability in the current timeline of the story. Now, as Egghead Island sprints toward its climax, the time has come for Garp to step into action and he will most likely be fighting none other than one ofthe Four Emperors of the Sea, Blackbeard.
Garp’s Power In His Prime
Garp has been given legendary status by Oda and placed alongside other mighty people in the One Piece world, such as Roger, the man known to be the Pirate King, and alsothe most fearsome pirate, Whitebeard, the Strongest Man in the World with the most powerful Paramecia type of Devil Fruit, Shiki, the Golden Lion, and even Sengoku, the Buddha of the Navy. In his prime, Garp contended with monstrously powerful pirates. While fans haven’t seen much of that, the series has dropped bits over time that confirm his strength as a mighty powerful pirate.

Garp is known to be a direct rival ofthe Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. In fact, even Roger admitted to the fact that the two almost killed each other on countless occasions, however, through their fights, they ended up developing a deep respect for each other, enough for Garp to protect and raise the unborn child of his rival. At the same time, Garp also fought alongside Roger when the two took on Rocks D. Xebec in combat. Once again, Oda ensured that he portrayed the two on a similar level and in the end, they managed to defeat him as well. Garp also fought and crushed several other powerful pirates such as Shiki, who he took down with Sengoku’s help on the island of Marineford, and even Don Chinjao, who he beat in a single punch. Garp would have risen to the rank of Admiral or even Fleet Admiral based on his strength alone, however, the responsibilities crippled his style, which is why he’s still a Vice Admiral of the Navy to this day.
Garp’s Power In Old Age
Although Garp is old right now, he’s still very powerful and this goes without saying. Fans have already seen old people shake up the world of One Piece on quite a lot of occasions. On Sabaody, Rayleigh made his appearance and he showed the skill to useall three forms of Hakieffortlessly despite being 76 years old. When Kizaru almost wiped out the Straw Hat Pirates, Rayleigh rushed to their rescue and stopped the Admiral who, at that time, was in his prime. Although Rayleigh was certainly not at his best, he was powerful enough to stop Kizaru with ease. During the war of Marineford, fans got a showing of what could just be the greatest display of strength by an individual in One Piece when Whitebeard unleashed his terror on the Navy.
Despite not being able to use Conqueror’s Haki due to his worsening health, Whitebeard proved to be a menace. Garp, on the other hand, is neither out of practice like Rayleigh nor is he afflicted by any sickness like Whitebeard. He is also younger than both of them, meaning there’s quite a huge chance for him to be in better physical condition than either. Garp has never shown any sign of weakening physical strength and while age will certainly have taken its toll on him, it won’t be as severe as it was with the likes of Rayleigh and Whitebeard.
Garp is known to possess immense Haki and as fans know, he does not have a Devil Fruit ability. As such, fans will most likely see the level of his Haki power in the upcoming chapters of the story where he clashes against Yonko Blackbeard. While Garp has not been shown to be a user of Conqueror’s Haki so far, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is in fact a user of this ability, given that Sengoku is known to possess it and Garp is someone who contended with the likes of Roger on an equal footing. At the same time, it must be noted that Blackbeard, while strong, isn’t at the same level as the likes of Roger and Whitebeard just yet. His fight against Law was indicative of the fact that he is defeatable and against someone like Garp, he’s likely to struggle. Either way, fans will now see the full power of the legend that is the Hero of the Marines very soon.
