After a poor fan response tothe latest addition to its cast,Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s impressive roster is about to expand even further. In a new Tweet, Nintendo of America revealed that six new DLC characters would be released as part of the game’s second Fighters Pass.

Although avidSmashplayers have probably already seen and used DLC fighters,Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis the first game in the franchise to offer a Fighters Pass, which grants access to all five DLC packs that currently exist. After the recent announcement that Byleth would be the fifth and final Fighters Pass character,Smashcreator Masahiro Sakurai announced that there would be another Fighters Pass with six more characters.

The tweet from Nintendo of America officially announced thatUltimate’s Fighter Pass Vol. 2 was available for fans to pre-order and confirmed that six new characters would be available. Going to the developer’s website reveals thatplayers will also receive additional stages, music and a new Mii Swordfighter outfit based off of the Ancient Soldier Gear fromThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.Nintendo of America also said that all of the Pass' packs should be released by December 2021.

While Sakurai and Nintendo have long since stopped taking suggestions for additions to theSmashroster, many replies to the announcement have included their character wishlists for the second Fighters Pass. Although the development team has not revealed who will be joining the cast, fans should remember that Sakurai previously said that he hadalready selected the six newSmashchallengers.

Recent additions havegiven representation to third party and indie game characters, but the necessary negotiation and cooperation with other developers will always make it more difficult to bring in non-Nintendo characters. When considering this reality and the recent disappointment around Byleth, players might curb their expectations and hold back on pre-ordering the Pass until the cast has been released.

Nintendo of America’s announcement should excite bothSmash Bros.fans and general Nintendo aficionados alike. By continuing to integrate more characters and Mii fighters into the game, Nintendo is successfully maintaining hype around the game by encouraging speculation aboutpotential upcoming characters like Crash Bandicoot. With its continued post-launch support ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate,it’s clear that the developer wants the game to live up to its name.
