There are players all over the globe hopping into New World each week to spend a few hours relaxing to some manual labor. Players can even own a house if they so please and home ownership in New World offers perks past “just another place to decorate.” Although players will still be able to place furniture in their homes as they see fit, houses offer some unique bonuses, buffs, and additional storage, making them a hot commodity for those that live and breathe the world of Aeternum. But how exactly do players buy a house in New World and when is the best time to buy one?

Why Should You Buy A House In New World?

The main draw for buying a home in New World is access to additional storage. Although there is a storage shed in each town, players that spend a lot of time mining, crafting, chopping wood, and collecting all manner of ingredients will find themselves inundated with loot. Players that own a home can add specialized chests to the inside of the house, giving them access to additional storage. The amount that the chest can hold is dictated by what type of chests players make (according to their Furniture making trade skill) and the amount of chests that a player can have in a given house is determined by the house size and initial cost.

Another draw of house ownership, often overlooked by new players, are the addition of trophies. These specialized decorations can be placed into a home and provide a global buff that can affect everything from mining and crafting to travel and combat. Homes also give players an additional fast travel point, one that is free every 2-4 hours (depending on house size and cost).

How To Buy A House In New World

Buying a home in New World is a pretty simple process, but players won’t be able to simply walk into any town and snag a property. Before they’re able to put forward the cash to secure a house, they’ll need to achieve a specific amount of “standing” with whatever area the home is located in. Standing can be gained by performing tasks within the region, like taking on quests and doing tasks for the town board.

Once players have reached 10 Standing in the chosen zone, they’ll be given access to purchase a home there. Unfortunately, 10 Standing is only enough to afford the lowest-tier of home in an area and players will need to gain more should they want a bigger or more elaborate home. Currently, there are four different house sizes available in New World and players will need to be at 10, 15, 20, and 30 Standing to reach each tier.

Once players have the appropriate Standing (and money) all they’ll need to do is search a town for a home and walk up to it to begin the prompt for purchase. As it currently stands, homes are only available in the main towns of each zone. It’s also important to note that the first time players purchase a home they will be given a 50 percent discount and players can own up to three homes at one time.

Types Of Houses In New World

Although there are a lot of different house styles in New World, as well as locations to buy a home, there are only four “tiers” of houses. Here’s a look at each house tier and what they offer.

When Should You Buy A House In New World?

The best time to buy a home in New World depends on the player. It’s up to gamers to determine when they need more storage, if they can afford to snag a house, what kind of buffs they’re interested in, and if they can afford the taxes. It’s important to note that there are some drawbacks to buying a home and that players can’t simply snag any house they want and expect it to sit there while they spend countless days doing other things.

Unfortunately, thanks to New World’s living and breathing economy, houses come complete with their own taxes that players will need to fork over on a weekly basis to ensure they can access their homes. Thankfully, players won’t lose access to the house but they will lose the ability to gain buffs from their trophies and won’t be able to invite other players into their decorated houses. Because of this, it’s recommended that playersdo not buy a house until they are ready and consistent enough to pay for the taxes on it. Players should also take advantage of the first-time homebuyer discount by purchasing a larger home (to get a bigger discount) if they can afford the taxes.
