It’s only been two weeks sinceResident Evil 8was officially announced and excitement for the game has continued to increase within the gaming community. Not only will this game continue the mainResident Evilseries, but also build and improve upon the mechanics and story featured inResident Evil 7. While not much information is currently known regarding the game, a recent interview with two of the developers has proven to be rather insightful.

WhenResident Evil 7first released, it revitalized the survival horror genre in a tremendous way. Despite the game being played entirely in a first-person perspective, many of the mechanics found in older, more traditionalResident Evilgames made their way into this new installment. The game was praised by both newcomers and veterans alike.

With how much of an impact the previous game made on the gaming community,Resident Evil 8has a lot to live up to. Though, sadly, not a lot of confirmed information has been brought to light by the developers. Most, if not all of the information regarding the game has been circulated via leaks. Whilesome of theResident Evilleaks have been accurate at times, they should not be relied on by anyone, considering that the information did not come from somewhere official.

However, a recent Famitsu interview with two of the game’s most prominent developers, Tsuyoshi Kanda and Pete Fabiano, has proven quite fruitful. While the developers could not comment on certain questions, they were able to extrapolate upon various other points. This includes how the game has been development for nearly four years,Chris Redfield’s involvement in the game, and how this game will serve as the conclusion to the story ofResident Evil 7.

The developers also confirmed the return of the first-person camera view, puzzles,re-vamped inventory management, and upgraded graphics and sound. However, probably the most interesting point brought up in the interview was the meaning of the word Villageand how it relates toResident Evil 8. The developers refer to it as the Village and mentioned that it will be a protagonist unto itself.

Right now, it’s unclear who or what Village is in the larger scheme ofResident Evil. It’s possible that Village could be another mutant variant in the same vein as Tyrant fromResident Evil 2orNemesis fromResident Evil 3. Though, in that case, why refer to it as a protagonist? Will the monster be playable? For now, fans of the series will just have to wait for the game to release.

Resident Evil 8is set to release in 2021 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
