There’s nothing quite as relaxing as fishing, but someOverwatch 2players seem to have missed that memo, as their recent shenanigans are leading to ruined matches and frustrating player experiences.Overwatch 2’s newest map Arctic Peninsula comes equipped with a fishing hole that spits out fish upon being shot at. Some cheeky players have pushed the limits of this fun feature to an almost game-breaking degree.
Season 3 ofOverwatch 2brings much-needed changes to the seasonal model and the game itself. The first season to feature a single new map as the solitary premium offering, Season 3 is putting Blizzard’s new even-odd seasonal model into effect. From here on out, every even-numbered season will feature new heroes to be added to the roster alongside other content, whereas every odd-numbered season will introduce new maps to the existing pool. The first offering of this new seasonal model is Arctic Peninsula, a map that is frozen in time and ice. During the reveal, Blizzard stated thatOverwatch 2’sArctic Peninsula mapwill feature some fun additions like an interactive fishing hole and a few immortal penguins.

Deviating from standard angling practices,Overwatch 2players must shoot at the fishing holeto spawn the fish. In quite an amusing fashion, the number of fish spawned correlates to the number of bullets fired, as demonstrated by the official Overwatch 2 Twitter account via a short video. Players have taken this information to heart and have employed the help of one of the most notorious heroes inOverwatchhistory, Bastion. Some players have even decided to join forces and stack as many Bastions as they can to shoot at the fishing hole, causing a hilarious amount of fish to be piled up. The sheer presence of so many fish on the map has been causing severe performance issues, mainly tanking frame rates into the single digits.
It is still uncertain if Bastion fishing affects only the creative anglers or everyone on the map. Regardless of the amusement caused by this innocuous feature, it has caused some alarm among the player base regarding the possibility of an exploit. Blizzard dealt with a similar situation whenJunkertown first arrived inOverwatch 2, where players could shoot a specific piece of rubble on the Attacker side spawn, which would cause frame rates to plummet for both teams. As the fishing feature is similar to the Junkertown problem, players have been quick to voice their concerns on the topic.
Overwatch 2’s Season 3 is currently in its first week, and Blizzard still has plenty of time to remedy the situation, even if it means a nerf to fishing. As this season will solidify thefuture ofOverwatch 2’s new seasonal model, Blizzard will be hard-pressed to deliver the smoothest experience for both new and returning players.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
