The newFortniteseason 5 theme has taken a lot of inspiration from outside sources to incorporate into its own game, such as the names for some of the new characters. Now it seems that somenew changes inFortnitemay involve taking ideas from the popular hidden identity gameAmong Uswith a new game mode.
For a limited time, thenewFortniteupdatehas created a new game mode called “The Spy Within,” which pits players against each other to figure out the identities of traitorous spies within the group. For the newFortnitegame mode, the agents' goal is to complete tasks and earn coins before the spies are able to kill all of them without being caught.

WhileAmong Uswasn’t the first game to create themafia-style party gameformula, it is arguably the most popular and influential hidden identity type game out right now. Besides that, there are still quite a few key similarities to The Spy Within and functions withinAmong Us.
One of the first biggest similarities is that if gamers notice a suspicious player, they are able to call a meeting to discuss with the group why they believe that player is the spy and vote them out. Not only that, but there are a total of ten agents with two spies in the game, similar to the maximum lobby size inAmong Ushaving two imposters for ten crewmates, not counting the option for a third imposter.
However,Fortnite’s The Spy Within does incorporatein-game voice proximity chatfor meetings to discuss with other players, which is a nice change of pace from having to type on a keyboard for public lobbies inAmong Us.Players will also be rewarded with new cosmetic items such as a festive holiday weapon skin, a new glider, and a skateboard with a spy-inspired design on it. The game mode will also change every few days to feature a new game variant created by community members KKSlider, DolphinDom, Blanky, Bunni_, Wert, MackJack, Ritual, and Snownymous.
It is hard to tell ifFortnitewill be able to pull any players fromAmong Usto join this game mode instead, if that was ever even the intention in the first place.Among Ushas made the jump to Switch and will soon come to theXbox Game Pass, so it is probably the better business strategy to keep fans loyal to the game since a new and incredibly popular game is making the jump to consoles. Hopefully, fans will be able to enjoy The Spy Within mode for its own unique merits.
