One of the most influential games for the Fighting Game Community isMarvel Vs. Capcom 2: Age of New Heroes, which first released in 2000. This crossover takes the iconic rosters of both Marvel Comics and Capcom and pits them against one another in team-based battles, making it a stand-out release among other fighters of the day. The game is still fondly remembered to this day and is considered by many to bethe bestMarvel vs. Capcomgame, with some circles declaring it the best fighting game of all time. Sadly, the game has been delisted since 2013, unable to be officially purchased from digital storefronts.

Fans have since then been asking Capcom and Marvel to re-release this game, which came to a head thanks to prominent YouTuber and FGC figurehead Maximilian Dood. Last year, he started an online campaign tobring backMarvel vs. Capcom 2to hopefully convince the relevant parties to re-release the game. Arcade1Up, an arcade cabinet producer, has revealed to fans that a brand-new cabinet ofMarvel Vs. Capcom 2is coming out this year.

As revealed in a new video from Arcade1Up, the company will bere-releasingMarvel vs. Capcom 2with this cabinet, which has been officially licensed by both Marvel and Capcom. Not only will this cabinet feature the aforementionedMvC2, but eight other classic Marvel fighting games. This includes the firstMvC,Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter,X-Men: Children of the Atom, and more. Not only that, this arcade cabinet isn’t limited to just local play, as it will support online play, meaning fans can challenge each other in matches ofMvC2from around the world.

Other features of this arcade cabinet include an exclusive piece of side panel art, along with a custom riser that can be used to adjust the machine’s height so fans can play the game while standing up straight, as if they were back in the arcades themselves. The machine also has a special light-up marquee as well as a headphone jack so players can be fully invested in their matches. Much like otherArcade1Up cabinets, no quarters are needed to play the games included.

Fans have expressed their excitement for the release of this cabinet, with EVO champion Justin Wong noting thatMarvel Vs. Capcom 2has been finally “freed” after so many years. There isn’t any word if this arcade re-release could lead to a modern port down the line, but this at least gives fans a chance to play a collection of classic Marvel fighting games. Pre-orders for this cabinet open in September and will ship the following month.

TheMarvel vs. Capcom 2cabinet from Arcade1Up will release in early October 2022.
