My Hero Academiahas been on the video game scene for sometime now, having released two pretty successful fighters and a solid mobile game over the past few years. The nextMy Hero Academiagame looks to switch up the formula, though, bringing the series into the battle royale scene of multiplayer titles.
Ever sinceMy Hero Academia’s anime began in 2016, the series has steadily increased in popularity to the point of receiving multiple video game tie-ins. More straightforward of the bunch is theMy Hero One’s Justiceseries, a pair of solid fighting games featuring dozens of characters from the show. The other release is the mobile gameMy Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, a team-building action-RPG that lets players recruit their favorite characters to fight against the series' villains. Lastly, many ofMy Hero Academia’s characters have appeared in the soon to be offlineJump Force, further signaling the series' popularity.

Originally reported by Sal Romano of Gematsu, Bandai Namco has announcedMy Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble, afree-to-play battle royale game. The reveal comes from the latest issue of Weekly Jump, a translation of one of its panels stating, “Team up to win a 24-player rumble in multiplayer action!” There are a litany of screenshots that show some off some of the game’s action and mechanics, there appearing to be teams of three, cooldown abilities, and a mini-map. It furthermore looks to provide new gameplay opportunities not possible in previous games, like a third-person-shooter perspective of Bakugo’s grenade blasts.
The game is currently in development for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, but has yet to receive a release date. According to theWeekly Jumpscan, eventually Bandai Namco will be holding a closed beta test forMy Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble, though there is not a lot information about that either. More details about the closed beta and the game itself most likely can be found onMy Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble’s official website when that eventually launches. For now, it seems that all the available information is what can be translated from these Weekly Jump pages.
While most people probably didn’t have aMy Hero Academiabattle royale on their bingo card for 2022, this has the potential to be pretty interesting. In the same way thatDragon Ball: The Breakersput an assymetric twist on the franchise, highlighting the power scaling the franchise is known for,My Hero Academia: Ultra Battlebeing a battle royale could have unique mechanics that incentivize heroism and teammwork.
With theMy Hero Academiamanga apparently endingwithin a year, there is no better time for a new game. Many battle royales can feel drab or uninspired so hopefully this one can get it right.
